Garden State
Garden State | Rick Moody
4 posts | 2 read | 5 to read
This first novel by the acclaimed author of Demonology and The Ice Storm traces a group of friends in Haledon, New Jersey, through one Spring in their rocky passage towards adulthood. The kids are out of school, trying to start a band, trying to find work; looking for something to do within the degraded terrain of their suburban hometown. Garden State starkly captures the lyricism of their lives in an intense and unforgettable story of friendship and betrayal.

Mehso-so

The story follows a group of friends in New Jersey in their rocky passage toward adulthood. I thought the story idea was good, the writing was just a little too fast paced for me. It made the story seem rushed and a little choppy in parts. I had a hard time connecting with the characters. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

#novemberbythenumbers This book was published #25 years ago. Moody‘s first book,it covers the often trod territory of adolescence into adulthood .I read it maybe 5 years after it came out. While his characters are not all likable, I really FELT what they were going through.Moody called it the most “naked “ thing he has ever written. That‘s good enough for me.

Blaire Is the movie based on this book? 6y
Leftcoastzen @Blaire Though they did make a film of Moody‘s The Ice Storm , Garden State movie was written by Zach Braff so the 2 are only related by title and the fact they both take place in New Jersey. 6y

Had to skip @24in48 this weekend because we are sitting on the highway with about 1 million of our closest friends 😩. Plus 2 kids, 2 grandparents, 1 great uncle, every conceivable stuffed animal we own (including a giant sized Nemo) and about 30 books. Some would call this vacation. 🤔 Enjoy the readathon!
