Safety Pin | Sonali Bhattacharya
7 posts | 2 to read
A young and independent-minded journalist, Rinky kept hallucinating and saw her Moni Mashi, her aunt, after her sudden death during a vacation in Manali. She plans a solo trip to the place which held more than one mystery associated with her life. She struggles to get over the undefined fear that had settled in her mind over years. She was all alone, but by sheer coincidence, from the world of travel, the young entrepreneur Shekhar, her Safety Pin friend, tags along. The unique individuals drive through the hilly terrains of Himachal Pradesh, unfurling the risky turns of their life with trust and mistrust in each corner. Every turn has a dot that stands fuzzy at first, as the young companions start dabbling in more probing to discover the secrets that are woven together. The mystery gives Rinky and Shekhar a second chance. They set off in search of a destination.

jpmcwisemorgan I would love that but I can't do that anywhere visible due to my current job - no visible tattoos allowed. 7y

I'm already wearing one, and edited my FB profile picture to this. It's a small gesture that hopefully can have great consequences. #safetypin

The safety pin is being used in the U.K. after Brexit to let those who may feel unsafe know you are a safe person, that you are willing to walk with them, sit with them on the bus, and so on. This is a photo that's being shared on FB for people to use on their profiles. This crosses political divides and is a way to show unity.

Let's pledge to be a safe place for each other, as @Litsy is for us. In a time of fear, uncertainty, and general incivility, I will wear a #safetypin as symbol and pledge of my willingness, my desire, my choice to stand up for myself and others. #WeHoldTheLine #StrongerTogether

SoniaC Thank you for this. 7y
GeekGrl82 A friend was verbally accosted yesterday in the grocery stire parking lot, and told that she would soon learn her proper place. Unbelievable. 7y
jpmcwisemorgan Hold on, I'm going to post a photo you can use. 7y

jpmcwisemorgan Ok I posted it. I know some people changed their FB photos to black but this might be more useful. 7y
Abby-J @GeekGrl82 I'm so sorry that happened to your friend, but I think that it's far more likely that straight white bigots and misogynists are about to learn their place. We aren't going away. We aren't going to back down, and the women who have been sitting on their laurels enjoying their privilege are going to quit putting up with their overt hatred and join us, too. 7y
BookishMarginalia @GeekGrl82 A student of mine and her mom --both white-skinned and blonde Puerto Ricans-- were walking down the street this week in Boston where my student was visiting Harvard, when a homeless man heard them speaking Spanish and started screaming at them, calling them "spics" and saying Trump will throw them out of the country. 7y
GeekGrl82 @Abby-J I hope. I feel like we're living the news reel at the beginning of a dystopian movie/book. 7y
GeekGrl82 @BookishMarginalia That is crazy! 7y
Lynnsoprano I already have my pin on. A friend of mine on the faculty at Mississippi State posted a picture of KKK literature that's been distributed on campus the last two days. Safety is paramount. #safetypin 7y
