I got this query from @Eventerj9 . Dies this sound familiar to anyone?

She thinks it might have been a YA series written by a woman.

This ended up being a great short story. Thanks to @EadieB for the recommendation. I haven‘t been able to keep up with the Binchy reads lately, but so glad I got to read this. It‘s a quick and easy read.

Andrew65 Her books always are. 😊👍 4y
EadieB @jb72 Glad you enjoyed it! 4y
jb72 @EadieB It was good story packed in so few pages. Believe me..I understand Mam! My SO‘s adult son has been living with us for two years. He plays video games all day when he is home (in his room). He does work, but seems to have no ambition. 4y

EadieB @jb72 My daughter and 12 yo granddaughter are moving home from Virginia where she has been living for the past 20 years. Her favorite expression is, “I‘m not doing anything today, I need to regroup.” Love her dearly but our philosophies of life clash drastically. Also, she goes out of her way to annoy me. I go in my bedroom so my audiobook won‘t annoy others while she blasts her music and when I ask her to turn it down then I am picking on her. 4y
jb72 @EadieB Yeah I know what you mean. While his son is pretty quiet, he needs to be told to wash his sheets and clean his room. Really?!?!? He‘s 28 yo. I have a feeling he is staying permanently which isn‘t going to work for me. Thankfully he drives a truck with his dad so I have my quiet time for now, but he is not happy with that. Who knows what will be next. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Definitely different philosophies on life here too. 4y
EadieB @jb72 I‘m thankful that we have a beach house near Assateague MD where I can escape to when things get crazy. 4y
ljuliel @EadieB @jb72 I hope you don‘t mind me adding my 2 cents. We‘ve had adult kids come home twice . It doesn‘t work. I‘ve always had that theory , that adult kids ,once they‘ve left home, need to fend for themselves. It never turns out well when they move back in. Two “ families” under one roof is beyond difficult ,because they‘re used to their ways and you have your own routine. They don‘t want you “interfering”, but they‘re living under your roof 4y
EadieB @ljuliel She will have to live with us until she gets a job for sure. I know I will probably get on her nerves as much as she will get on mine, so hopefully she won't be with us too long. She absolutely adores her father and he loves all the attention she gives him so I'm really in a position where I can't say too much. 4y
ljuliel @EadieB Yes, that would add an extra kink , I think, if one parent was ok with it and the other wasn‘t too crazy about it. We both agree on this issue, so no problem in that area. Our last one that came home said they‘d get a job, the husband said you have 2 months. They thought they could stretch that out a bit.,.... they had our bedroom, we had none. I cooked and cleaned. They did nothing. Nightmare resulted. 4y
EadieB @ljuliel That does sound like a nightmare! When she comes for a week at Christmas my husband usually has had enough of the disruption she causes and is happy to see her go back to Virginia so hopefully we can find a solution quickly. 4y
ljuliel I‘ll be thinking of you. I know it‘s a stressful situation, so I hope it won‘t last long. 4y
jb72 @ljuliel @EadieB Absolutely you can add your thoughts. I agree. It doesn‘t work in most cases. I figure if you‘re gonna live in my house, you‘re gonna respect my space. His son is mostly quiet as he sits in his room all day and plays video games. He doesn‘t do any chores unless told to, and he moves so slow you think he might be in slow motion mode. It‘s annoying. I made my kids hustle when needed. He also mumbles. Super annoying. 4y
jb72 @EadieB That must be hard on you. I hope she finds a job and becomes independent again. 4y
JaclynW I so enjoy Maeve Binchy! I need to read more of her. 4y
ljuliel @jb72 Your SLO-MO description sounds very familiar. Unfortunately, we know several couples dealing with the same thing. I think lots of people in that age category are either slo- mo, or not in motion at all. 4y
ljuliel @JaclynW I‘m sorta trying to go back through and reread them all. I honestly can‘t remember which ones I read , because I started reading them back when they first came out. I remember I read Light a Penny Candle first, and recently read it again. It had been so long, it was like reading a new book. 4y
jb72 @ljuliel I don‘t get it. Frankly it is painful to watch and he acts like he‘s legitimately an idiot. I guess I just raised my kids differently. I made them speak clearly and move to get stuff done. 4y
JaclynW @ljuliel I've read Circle of Friends and Tara Road. And I think one more, but I can't remember....😄 4y
ljuliel @JaclynW Did you sign up for @Andrew65 ‘s group back when it started ? I think all his questionnaires are still available for the books if you want to read them now and chime in on the questions, and see what other‘s comments were. I was only in the last 2 or 3 , I think. 4y
Andrew65 @ljuliel @JaclynW The questions are all still there on the pages for the books. We have done all her novels and currently thinking about a new author to target in March. 4y
ljuliel Thanks @Andrew65 I might give some of her older ones a try then look up your questions. 4y
JaclynW @Andrew65 I know you still have the questions posted. I got so far behind! My intentions were good. 😬😄 Let me know the new author you pick and I will see if I can make it work. I like buddy reads with you! You have great taste in books.😊 4y
JaclynW @ljuliel Yes, I know about the buddy reads. I could never keep up. 🙂 4y
Andrew65 @JaclynW Thanks 😊, because we post the questions in sections you can read at your own pace. Will tag you when we choose a new author. 4y
JaclynW @Andrew65 Thanks! 4y

This is a short quick read and very enjoyable. It was easy to relate to the mother in this story and how all her grown children moved back home and expected her to cater to them. She gives them a dose of tough love and sets them straight. This was one of Maeve‘s last books and as always has a lot of wisdom in it about how to make your children more responsible. Enjoyed reading about characters from her other books too. Highly recommended!

Andrew65 Will have to check this out, not read it. 4y
