On this week‘s new episode of my podcast, find out what happens when I discover that a book that‘s been stuck in my head since childhood — Elizabeth Winthrop‘s The Castle in the Attic — is about way more than a beautiful toy castle! Shoutout to Amanda Lovelace for being a fantastic guest. 🏰 Link to listen in bio!

“She poured some honey into her tea. The floating spirals of gold slipped underneath the surface, one little circle after another.”

Lovely imagery here, plus a bonus for being about tea. ✨☕️

TheAromaofBooks Oh wow, it's been so long since I read this book I can't even remember what it's about! But it's still on my shelf. :-D 5y
Sunraven @TheAromaofBooks: Same here! I think I saw someone post about it on Litsy or something (I haven‘t figured out for sure what reminded me, though — too much going on right now 😑) and I requested it from the library since I don‘t have access to my old copy right now. I couldn‘t remember the plot but I remembered loving it, and apparently I still love it! I should write a review but I‘m scrambling around right now due to 24in48, haha. 5y
TheAromaofBooks Not being able to remember anything beyond vague feelings about a book is what lead me to start book blogging back in the day - it helps me pay better attention while I'm reading, and then I also have something to go back and look at later, too. Sadly, this one was too far in the distant past. :-D 5y
Sunraven @TheAromaofBooks: Yeah, the last time I read this one might have been before “blog” was a word (at least in the “weblog” sense), hahaha. That‘s sort of why I started a craft blog back when, though, too — to help me keep track of what the heck I was making and when... 5y

I loved fantasy books as a kid, and besides all the obvious series, this duology was a #magical favorite. I had to grab some screenshots though, bc a friend's 9yo daughter is borrowing my physical copies right now! 🙂 #aprilamazingreads

TobeyTheScavengerMonk I loved the first one when I was a kid! Didn't know there was a sequel! 7y

#octphotochallenge #90stoy technically I still have mine, but it's in the garage not the attic. I had EVERY piece, which everyone laughed at since I was in high school when it came out. But I love. I was just debating last week as I pack things, if I should keep it. Currently, yes won.

GuiltyFeat I brought this back on a plane for my kids and they played with it for years. We also had the pirate ship. 8y
Arcana We have the pirate ship, too! And we're never getting rid of it. 8y
LibrarianRyan @GuiltyFeat love it. I brought the dragon tower back on a plane from DC when when I was in Highschool. 8y

TsundokuAleax Aw, man. My youngest brother had one of these and we all loved playing with it. I think my parents might even still have it. Oh the memories. 8y
ValerieAndBooks Keep it!! Something like that is too hard to replace! The only thing I have here re: 90s toys is my son's Original Tickle Me Elmo -- he got it the year that the craze began!! 8y
LibrarianRyan @ValerieAndBooks 🤓. Over the weekend I couldn't let it go. It was funny because my guy found the same pick I used and texted we should pull it out and play. 8y
