Doomed
Doomed | Chuck Palahniuk
Madison Spencer, the liveliest and snarkiest dead girl in the universe, continues the afterlife adventure begun in Chuck Palahniuks bestseller Damned. Just as that novel brought us a brilliant Hell that only he could imagine, Doomed is a dark and twisted apocalyptic vision from this provocative storyteller. The bestselling Damned chronicled Madisons journey across the unspeakable (and really gross) landscape of the afterlife to confront the Devil himself. But her story isnt over yet. In a series of electronic dispatches from the Great Beyond, Doomed describes the ultimate showdown between Good and Evil. After a Halloween ritual gone awry, Madison finds herself trapped in Purgatoryor, as mortals like you and I know it, Earth. She can see and hear every detail of the world she left behind, yet shes invisible to everyone whos still alive. Not only do people look right through her, they walk right through her as well. The upside is that, no longer subject to physical limitations, she can pass through doors and walls. Her first stop is her parents luxurious apartment, where she encounters the ghost of her long-deceased grandmother. For Madison, the encounter triggers memories of the awful summer she spent upstate with Nana Minnie and her grandfather, Papadaddy. As she revisits the painful truth of what transpired over those months (including a disturbing and finally fatal meeting in a rest stops fetid mens room, in which . . . well, never mind), her saga of eternal damnation takes on a new and sinister meaning. Satan has had Madison in his sights from the very beginning: through her and her narcissistic celebrity parents, he plans to engineer an era of eternal damnation. For everyone. Once again, our unconventional but plucky heroine must face her fears and gather her wits for the battle of a lifetime. Dante Alighieri, watch your back; Chuck Palahniuk is gaining on you.

Thanks for the tag @AmyK1 💕 Currently listening to the tagged audiobook while I paint, and once that‘s finished, I‘ll be finishing If You Knew My Sister.

My husband, my cats, and then books. In that order 😂♥️

The first one was damn good, so maybe the sequel was always #doomed to be a failure.

Reviewsbylola Wow, I had no idea there even was a sequel!! 6y
emilyhaldi I hate it when the sequels don‘t live up to the original! 👎🏻👎🏻 6y
Cinfhen I‘ve rarely read a good sequel 🙄 6y
PagesOfKate Trust me @Reviewsbylola this is one of those sequels that seems less about plot and more about the author making some $$$ - not worth the effort. 6y

I think the second book was too much. It all happened in one day. A lot of flashbacks and horrid scenes. And the ending was made too quickly to make sense.

I had high hopes for the sequel, but I guess that was my mistake.

Madison is a thirteen-year-old girl who dies and learns that she is tasked with patching up God and Satan's relationship. For some reason, this novel felt more graphic than some of his other ones. Maybe it's because it involved animals dying? Regardless, I enjoyed it. I got a kick out of everyone eating so much candy in Hell ;)

I received this book as a much anticipated Christmas gift. This is a book I would recommend to friends and family to make them say "what the f*#k?" Defiantly an enjoyable read.
