My (Part-Time) Paris Life
My (Part-Time) Paris Life: How Running Away Brought Me Home | Lisa Anselmo
Poignant, touching, and lively, this memoir of a woman who loses her mother and creates a new life for herself in Paris will speak to anyone who has lost a parent or reinvented themselves. Lisa Anselmo wrapped her entire life around her mother, a strong woman who was a defining force in her daughters lifemaybe too defining. When her mother dies from breast cancer, Lisa realizes she hadnt built a life of her own, and struggles to find her purpose. Who is she without her motherand her mothers expectations? Desperate for answers, she reaches for a lifeline in the form of an apartment in Paris, refusing to play it safe for the first time. What starts out as a lurching act of survival sets Lisa on a course that reshapes her life in ways she never could have imagined. But how can you imagine a life bigger than anything youve ever known? In the vein of Eat, Pray, Love and Wild, My (Part-time) Paris Life a story is for anyone whos ever felt lost or hopeless, but still holds out hope of something more. This candid memoir explores one womans search for peace and meaning, and how the ups and downs of expat life in Paris taught her to let go of fear, find self-worth, and create real, lasting happiness.

3 stars. It was good enough that I finished it, but there seemed a lot of whining and angst. I feel that she did experience some real personal growth though so that was good.

I finished this memoir in two days. It slid down like the perfect wine, accompanied by scintillating company. She writes from the heart, tells charming stories, and keeps her readers anxious to know her next steps. The element I loved the most in Anselmo‘s journey is that the solution doesn‘t come in the form of a man, Parisian or otherwise. Fun and poignant!

This book isn‘t about #genealogy at all. It‘s about a woman reinventing herself, but she makes this friend who invites her to a weekend house party in his Burgundy family home. I think she‘s right that knowing your family history can make you feel a little immortal. But, more than that, it‘s all those ancestors who gain immortality because we still talk about the. Maybe someone will do that for me someday! #immigrants #history #family

CoverToCoverGirl I‘m an avid genealogist and you nailed it. When you know who your ancestors are you feel connected in a way I‘ve never really been able to put into words. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @CoverToCoverGirl I agree. And the sense of victory is palpable when you find another new person for your family tree! 5y
CoverToCoverGirl That‘s happened on my husband‘s family side. I‘ve uncovered a few secrets some wonderful ... a few not so good on both sides. When you‘re on the hunt, literally a day can go by and it feels like ten minutes! 5y

#TBRtemptation post! A memoir which just came out a couple months ago, this book is said to follow in the same vein as "Eat, Pray, Love" and "Wild". It's about a woman who loses her best friend--her mother--and decides to confront her fear of change by hopping the Atlantic and moving to Paris, where she buys an apartment. Which sets off a chain of events she never anticipated. Of course I want to read this ?! #blameLitsy #blameMrBook

Just what I needed. Charming and easy. It's not A Moveable Feast but for a little while I could return to Paris in my mind.

Bookmail perfect for #NationalCoffeeDay. A big thank you to St Martin's Press and Kensington! 💕📚☕️ As an aside, I actually just watched Lisa Anselmo last week in an episode of House Hunters International where she is searching for her Paris apartment. Very cool!
