In a Dry Season
In a Dry Season | Peter Robinson
New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award-winning author Peter Robinson delivers an unforgettable, compelling thriller of a lost village and the deadly secrets that are unearthed upon its discovery—secrets that include murder. In the blistering, dry summer, the waters of Thornfield Reservoir have been depleted, revealing the ruins of the small Yorkshire village that lay at its bottom—ruins that house the unidentified bones of a murdered young woman. Detective Chief Inspector Banks faces a daunting challenge: he must unmask a sadistic killer who has escaped detection for half a century. For the dark secrets of Hobb's End continue to haunt the dedicated policeman, even though the town that bred them has died and its former residents have been scattered to far places—or even to their graves. Demonstrating once again why Peter Robinson is a master of suspense, In a Dry Season is a powerful, insightful, and searing novel of past crimes and present evil.

My first read of April, from my #BookSpinBingo card. Another terrific Banks novel, slowly building; a book that takes its time but is still engrossing is the best kind. I can‘t imagine reading the Banks series out of order fwiw. The difference in Alan‘s life from book 1 to this one, no 10, is stark. The story of the hidden village and the parallel timelines are really well done. There is sexual violence.

To all who celebrate, Happy Easter!

Picked this up a few weeks ago at a community book exchange on Toronto Island. Inspector Banks - A new discovery. Now to start the back series (about 10). A great storyline about a drowned village in the Yorkshire Dales and life during WW2. Loved the tongue in cheek references to Heriot and Heartbeat. Also the detective‘s critique of detective novelists.

#Ten #NovemberByTheNumbers In a Dry Season by Peter Robinson is book 10 in the Inspector Banks series. This is the first book I read in the series, and still one of my favourites in the series.

This book felt too long, and the relationship between Banks and Cabbot seemed inappropriate (and some parts bordered on wish fulfillment 😕). Not sorry to let this one go.
