This book was such a well-crafted whirlwind. I gifted this to a good friend last weekend and I can't wait to hear how she feels about it. 😊

I read Asymmetry at completely the wrong time, while I was not really in a good place to read. It took me ages to finish the story because of that. Still, I loved it - and admired it.

There were so many perfect sentences, so many ideas to think about, this book has such originality.. I am grateful to the bookseller who convinced me to buy it.

I love Robin, Strike, and J.K. Rowling's writing too much to rate this unfavourably, but I did feel like she left us hanging on this one in terms of the friendship between Robin and Strike. The case they had to solve I found stronger and easier to follow than the cases in the previous two installments, so that was good. All in all, I enjoyed the reading experience, delving in and finishing this all in a day and a half.

I had never before read science fiction, but the characters and themes in these three books have just blown me away. What a nuanced, intelligent, thoughtful series. I so hope there is going to be a part four..

I'm over halfway in Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb and I really like it. I'm slightly disappointed, but that's because of my sky-high expectations, the somber turns that the plot keeps taking, and the vague serpent talk. Everything else is all good and I can't wait to read the rest.

It took me some time to get stuck into this one. The magical realism seemed too forced in the beginning of the story and I can't say I cared much for the characters. The author seemed overly present in the story. After a while, though, after the context had been laid out, the multi-generational tale with Ava at the center started up and I adored that. The bakery made this such a scrumptious autumnal read.

This book is crazy empowering. It is fierce and unapologetic, which is what all women (all people!) should be. Will be recommending this to anyone who will listen and gifting it to anyone who won't.

My boyfriend is pictured here reading Cline's the Girls during our Corfu getaway. I read it after him and enjoyed the ride, too! We loved the authenticity and newness of Evie's psychological development and how atmospheric the language was. And now I promise I will never post a book review in first-person plural again! 😂

This story! I can't get enough of Toibin and am dying to get to Nora Webster. It was very well received here in the Netherlands. I also watched the film adaptation of Brooklyn and am rewatching it in my local cinema with my boyfriend as part of a film adaptation lecture. I guess that says enough! 💞

Which book on the Man Booker shortlist are you excited about? After reading the first pages of Szalay and Beatty, I want to read both! Oops. And I haven't even checked out the others.

Ah, Norwegian Wood.. It had been recommended often and when a colleague from the bookshop came by to lend me her copy I no longer had any excuse not to. I loved the easy, straight-forward style and the quiet but sincere emotion of it. I will definitely be reading more Murakami, although I am prepared to be lightly freaked by talking cats and the like.
