Loved the suspense and the build. Ending was a bit meh but overall fun read. Perfect beach/plane ride book. You never know who you can trust!

Boo. I don‘t think I‘ve ever read something I disliked so much so fast. Cliché. Annoying main character. Woof-worthy ending. Maybe I have a black heart or have never known love but goo this one was not for me.

My god - I could not put this one down. Don‘t start this unless you have a day to crush it out in one sitting. Gripping story and fast moving. Perfect weekend read.

Typical Magary in that the entire thing is smart, funny and the characters are fantastic. I thought it was slow until the very end. Excellent premise and social commentary. Not my favorite of his books but still enjoyed it.

Ok. So this was an insane page turner for probably 7/8ths of the book. Suspenseful and creepy. Giving it a so-so because the end was DUMB. Dumb dumb. Took a turn that kind of made the whole thing meh. Some of the twist was great but the murderer reveal was kinda crap.

lynneamch My thoughts exactly. I was surprised that it was way more about the present day hotel and very little detail about when it actually had been a sanatorium. For historical fiction about women sent away to an asylum I recommend 3y

Meh. Going back on the shelf with an opinion of “ok I kind of liked you but I can‘t really nail down why you weren‘t that great.” The characters are mediocre and the twist was a bit predictable. Not bad for a beach vacay read but not engaging enough for a before bed read (I feel asleep snoozing aaaaaa lot).

Yikes. Wonderful characters and incredible story but holy shit it is GRIM. Hits different after having a baby reading about the extreme atrocities WWII and how it ripped families apart. Took me a while to get through because of that.

Are you a woman? Can you read? I know the answer to at least one of these is yes so if the first question pertains to you GO READ THIS BOOK. Just do it. Feel the feels. Soak it in. Then save it to read again later. You‘re a goddamn warrior now go remind yourself with this one.

Excellent read. Loved how the stories of two women who don‘t fit their expected mold cross paths and combine stories in this journey to find meaning in a post WWII wreckage of a world. Great characters. A little kitschy but overall wonderful.

Not a new opinion but this book took a while to get into. The characters were always lovely and the writing made the Kentucky mountainside pop. The last quarter of the book was phenomenal and definitely made it worth the read.

Cool premise but at times hard to follow. Loved the twists. Definitely worth the read but needed to do so in chunks as the timeline and character threads were challenging to keep up with.

Woah. Heavy sadness and extreme warmth melted together in a beautifully written story. So gorgeously descriptive you can see the Alaskan wild while you‘re reading.

LoverOfLearning Excellent description! I loved this one. 3y
