The Mandarins | Simone de Beauvoir

For today's #booktober #bestsidekick I couldn't really decide: Sam for Frodo? Watson for Holmes? Then: my husband for me (hopefully)? Well, I guess the couple de Beauvoir / Sartre is perfect: you don't know who's the sidekick :)

I love #scifi and #fantasy, and I especially enjoyed everything by the Strugazki-Brothers.
But "Hyperion" brought along something completely new (for me). An excellent composition of sadness, art, religion and sci-fi. (In my eyes: the sequel "Endymion" didn't reach this perfection.)

I have to "cheat" again, because my favourite Superhero doesn't appear on Litsy yet. It's Ronny Knäusel from the #comic "Das UPgrade" (Cross Cult Verlag). Completely odd (nonetheless true ?) story about a boy/young man from the GDR, who is able to teleport. 2nd hero is Cosmo Shleym, a musician from the US, who wrote the music for Ronny's teleportation skills. Best Villain ever is Heidrun Bellmann - sexy and evil.

Dante may have been right in many ways, but to put the STUPOR MUNDI in hell ... I guess he erred. Friedrich II. von Hohenstaufen has fascinated me for a long time. I collected many books about him. The novel by Horst Stern is okay. But still the best is the book "Federico" by Waldtraut Lewin. Strongly recommended ? Not really a #classiccharacter, but I don't care ?
