The Last Tycoon | F. Scott Fitzgerald
Pickpick

Honestly, making this book a pick because it‘s so interesting to see Fitzgerald‘s notes and writing process. I‘ve learned a lot from it and got the beautiful prose in the process.

Genuine Fraud | E. Lockhart

Mehso-so

This was an interesting YA thriller, and Lockhart is skilled in subtly crafting a character‘s psyche. No one was particularly likable in this book but they didn‘t need to be. I thought the ending was anticlimactic, and I was never super pulled in until halfway through. Overall, a decent read, but not Lockhart‘s best.

This book does the psychological development of its characters SO well. Although I think the writing is sometimes a little overworked, I‘m starting to really get where the hype comes from

I‘d give this about a 3.5/5. The pacing was good, I was definitely interested the whole time and finished this quickly. It‘s an easy read, nothing too complicated, but that also became a negative. I felt that the voices were often interchangeable, the plot felt a little predictable, and the worldbuilding/characterization was lacking. Fun, but I‘m not dying to pick up the next book in the series.

You know how some people have Happy Shows/Movies that they watch just because they make you feel good? That's me and this book. It's just so incredibly fun all the way through.

I'm a few days late for the 20th anniversary of the book series that influenced me in ways that I truly didn't realize literature could. But there's never a bad time to pop on the movie soundtrack and revisit Hogwarts, especially since these illustrations are to die for. Shout out to my cat in the background. #yerawizardharry #imawot

I Am the Messenger | Markus Zusak
post image
Pickpick

Overall, I really enjoyed this. I love Zusak's writing style, and I thought it was a really honest look at the world. Kind of rough, kind of indecent, kind of beautiful. The ending was a bit too meta for me and I didn't care that much for Ed's relationship with Audrey. Considering she was such a driving force for him, it lowers my rating a bit. But other than that, I truly enjoyed this one. 3.5/5 stars

I was initially going to focus on a phrase but nothing Zusak ever writes should be blurred tbh

Quick read that dealt with serious issues in a wry, honest way. Even more touching when you think about Vizzini himself

Finally reading this gem after ages of it being on my TBR

izziebear Thinking of getting this. How was it? 7y
Samberryy @izziebear really vivid sense of place and atmosphere but the pace was kind of too leisurely for me at times so I never felt a huge sense of urgency to finish. Like cool story but I felt like I could put it down at any point. (edited) 7y
