Perks of your dad being a book collector are that sometimes you get to read really cool editions of things for upcoming podcast episodes 🥺😍

A perfect morning catching up on my reading so that I'll be ready to record episode 4 of Of Prurient Interest! I can't wait to talk about Angela Carter's "The Bloody Chamber" with one of my oldest, dearest friends. ??

So excited to start this book for an upcoming episode of Of Prurient Interest! And I love unexpected illustrations. Have y'all read any Nin? What were some of your favorites?

Went backpacking to some hot springs this weekend and brought some thoroughly inscrutable poetry and a book about depression. Still lovely to read by a river ♥️

"What would an ideal relationship be like for me? Who am I but common and collected desires bound by sociocultural norms? What is a 'normal' relationship? What kind of role models do I have for alternative and radical relationships? What are my boundaries, self-imposed or otherwise? What am I scared of?" -Wendy-O Matik, "Redefining Our Relationships"

In the Dream House: A Memoir | Carmen Maria Machado

"Norman Mailer once said 'The sniffs I get from the ink of women are always,' among other things, 'too dykily psychotic.' In other words, one woman writing is mad and a woman-who-loves-women writing is mad squared. Hysteria and inversion, compounded like interest; an eternally growing debt. Mailer's use of the adverb dykily suggests that, for him, disinterest in his dick must be a species of psychosis." -Carmen Maria Machado, "In the Dream House"

Pickpick

I LOVED this book. It's so rare that I start reading a book by an author I've never read and within a few chapters start researching other books they've written because of how much I'm already enjoying it. Dimaline is an indigenous voice in a genre that is intensely white and male and her deft weaving of myth, folklore, and current struggles and oppression demand attention. I'll be reading her entire oeuvre I think ♥️♥️♥️

OfPrurientInterest I was also blown away by the casual way elder sexuality was dealt with. It was almost as if it's... normal?! 😱😆 In fact, all the elder women in this book were absolute heroine material. More books like this please. 3y

It's my Sunday stack! These are all the books I'm currently working on (I'm crazy): some are for book clubs, some for self-education, all of them for fun. What are y'all reading this week? Any faves?

"When I say that pornography is good for women, I mean that sexually explicit imagery in which women are shown giving performative demonstrations of their own sexual power is imagery that can transform the cultural paradigm and ultimately change the world." Excerpt from "Cum Guzzling Anal Nurse Whore: A Feminist Porn Star Manifesta by Lorelei Lee in "The Feminist Porn Book." Art by @spunk.rock on IG ???

One of my absolute favorite creatives currently exploring themes of obscenity and sexuality in our times is @tinahornsass in general and their comic @sfsx_comic in particular. The narrative tells of a not too distant future where the government controls who and how we fuck and the sex workers and other pervs who resist that control in every way they can. Do yourself a favor and pick these up asap.

Just a few of the books I hope to get around to talking about on my podcast, set to premiere in January 2021. Are there any books y'all would like to see featured? As long as there's something in there that the "normies" would find obscene, I'm down. ?
