Navigating a mental health condition but was well written and funny
Growing up in Tasmania, so interesting reading about Autism from someone with Autism.
Great book about a magical black and white circus
Underworld library, stories and sea. Zachary explores. Fantasy and some beautiful storytelling
Mere and Iraia run away to Wellington (1880s). Lulu and Bigs twins (1980‘s-90‘s). Do up a house in Rēkohu. Moriori, Māori and Pākehā. Brilliant
Set in Jeju. Haenyeo divers and a matriarchal society where women are the breadwinners. Devastating scenes as Japanese colonisation came to an end for American troops. Two friends.
Her journey into a same sex marriage and self discovery. Written a bit like a self help book, a bit preachy. Enjoyed the feminist unlearning section at the beginning and some takeaways about activism and boredom/creativity
Three Women‘s stories and how they are portrayed in the media, made to be small, pleasing, or don‘t learn how to live their desires.
AF Robot Klara and her person Josie. Started off so well but was slow moving. Couldn‘t stay interested.
Patricia‘s life told by her. Learning about Hongoeka bay and other areas of Porirua. Her husbands work with schools is also impressive.
Meh. Three women leave their husbands and live together with their families.
Maneck (student), Dina (independent woman), Om & Ishvar (tailors) live together during the India Emergency.
Road trip to Whangārā with girlfriend Llana and friend Ashi. Fraught relationships. Travels then to Levin to grandmother who is unwell. Set on top of recognition of colonial harm in NZ. Beautifully written and pleasure to read, sometimes uncomfortable as she struggles with own health. Not necessarily a good story with solid ending.
Short stories from Irish authors. Generally really engaging stories, often quite traumatic, with quick development of characters. Story of ABC children, having a ‘mental health‘ pillar.
Trojan war and Achilles. Meant to be a novel centering the women and their stories. I still felt it was mainly about the men and their egos.
Papakāinga on Māori Land.
I‘ve already forgotten the story but I remember mostly enjoying it 😂 Hi Lisa 👋
Short stories. Some very sad.
Story of Marie Grosholtz who is Madame Tussaud. She serves at Versailles and is imprisoned during Paris revolution. Super dark and weird but great.
I loved this book. Many different stories of women from mutlicultural backoground living U.K.
Enjoyed the first book but got bored quickly in this one. Didn‘t finish. Humour set against trump America and in nNorth Korea so is witty at times
Loved the story of Jane‘s life growing up to the point she returned to NZ at 40ish yrs. Such a great memory and way with words to bring it to life. Resonated with her feelings of confusion moving to London and joy of travel. Fascinating to read about Life in NZ at that time. Similar generation to my great grandparents.
Keen to watch the movie and also explore more of her books.
Built up great characters and witty storytelling. Great use of language to build imagery.
Story of the Price Family in the Congo
Amazing. Must read.
Story of two Māori brothers, Taukiri and ārama who lost their parents and their to story‘s post this.
Need to read it again
Good read, Confronting. Didn‘t realise it was based on a true story until the end.
Story of polish ‘rabbits‘ during WWII
Like a Netflix series, entertaining and hard to put down. Not necessarily amazing though
