It took me all the month of August and then some to read this bind up of Frame‘s three volumes of autobiography. Her writing demanded my close attention. What I loved most about Frame‘s life was her passion for discovery, despite her crippling shyness and her love of language. I don‘t know if I will try her fiction but I really must, mustn‘t I?

Leftcoastzen I need to read these ! I only read the one and loved it . It wasn‘t long .actually it reminded me of some of the New York Review books . My method for picking it was old fashioned, I went in library & checked out the one they had !😄 2y

“Writing a novel is not merely going on a shopping expedition across the border to an unreal land: it is hours and years spent in the factories, the streets, the cathedrals of the imagination.”

Remembering Janet Frame on her birthday.

Loved the story of Jane‘s life growing up to the point she returned to NZ at 40ish yrs. Such a great memory and way with words to bring it to life. Resonated with her feelings of confusion moving to London and joy of travel. Fascinating to read about Life in NZ at that time. Similar generation to my great grandparents.

Keen to watch the movie and also explore more of her books.

britt_brooke @Booksnchill Right?! I‘m not sure if I would‘ve gotten through it on my own, honestly. I read it with a buddy read group on here. Awesome experience! 6y
Booksnchill @britt_brooke yes I did it with the facebook group Infinite Summer that frequently reconvenes to read over a Summer- otherwise I was too daunted to start it on my own! 6y
kamoorephoto @Booksnchill Omg! I can‘t believe you‘ve got Adrian Mole on there, awesome!!! I love the Diary of Adrian Mole, it‘s one of the classics from my ‘childhood! and I picked it up at my son‘s school used book day. 6y
