A lovely book recommended by my lovely fiancée @Caterina . Absolutely lovely, an inspiring and hopeful tale. A touching and heart-wrenching romance. A shining example of modern magical realism.

The Sound of Waves is a lovely romance from Japanese legend Yukio Mishima. It takes place on a small rural island whose lives and scenery are dominated by the fish trade. The setting is lovingly rendered is sparse detail. However, this is a romance written by a man in the 50s. Descriptions of women range from passable to cringe-worthy, and there are monstrous crimes attempted which are treated as momentary lapses in character. (TW, SA)

A wonderful story about stories. Has become a personal favorite. Recommended by the lovely @Caterina . Some books are so inventive, playful, and fun that they set your mind running and make you want to try your own hand at writing. This book ranks among them, and it has a moving emotional core that will stick with you for a while. 5/5, 10/10, can‘t recommend it enough.

A great recommendation from @Caterina , this was a fun cerebral allegory that kept me hooked the whole way through. Very human, dark, but not without elements of hope. 4/5

One of the best memoirs I‘ve read! Every anecdote was an easy read, and I laughed out loud several times.

TheBookAddict Yes! He actually narrates the audiobook. It was so much fun listening to it. 🙂👍🏽 3y

Fun twist on the It‘s a Wonderful Life narrative, was a really easy read

Caroline2 That‘s a really good point, it is a bit like It‘s a wonderful life. 🤔 3y

If you like Egger‘s usual fare you‘ll like this. Has punchy writing and surprisingly doesn‘t make the same political satirical points that have been made ad nauseam. Short read, and puts too much blame on Trump himself rather than the tides of white supremacy that led him there, but it‘s really good for a lazy afternoon or a flight.

Really good! Sparse language but super compelling with strong imagery, compelling plot, and a bleak social message that ends on a note of hope.
