Fascinating overview of the history of Scandinavia from the Vikings to the present day. There was an awful lot I knew nothing about. A great preparation for my trip to Denmark and Sweden which starts on Saturday 🛫🇩🇰🇸🇪

LeahBergen Saturday!? Lucky you! 👏👏 1y
CarolynM @LeahBergen I‘m feeling more overwhelmed and anxious than excited at the moment but I am looking forward to being there. 1y

CarolynM @Centique Thank you, Paula💕 and you are very welcome 😘 1y
rabbitprincess @CarolynM I loved the Museum of Copenhagen and Kronborg Castle, aka Hamlet‘s castle ? the beach at Amager Strand is nice too! In Sweden I saw Malmö, Ystad and Lund. Lund is BEAUTIFUL and a real university town. Ystad is a must if you like Kurt Wallander ? As for food, be sure to go to Sct Peders Bageri in Copenhagen 1y
rabbitprincess also, smørrebrød, aka open-face sandwiches ? 1y
CarolynM @rabbitprincess Thanks! I visited Copenhagen in 2018 so I'm familiar with some of that. I'm looking forward to Kronborg Cadtle very much & I'll put Amager Strand on the must visit list🙂 1y

CarolynM @Rissreads Hi Nerissa👋 Still away, in Aalborg today, quietly apologising to Jorn Utzon for the behaviour of the NSW government 😬 🫤 We have one more week away. When do you leave for your trip? 13mo
Rissreadswithcats I leave on the 18th. It‘s getting close now! 13mo
Centique Hi Carolyn. I sent you a wee “thinking of you” gift from a local retailer - but forgot to get a message attached - so a package from a shop called Top 3 should turn up! And just to say you are in my thoughts and wishing you better times ahead 💕 12mo

My version of blue ling in mustard cream sauce (blálanga í sinnepssósu), p 95 of the cookbook, with new potatoes. Very nice, and a lot less scary than some of the other recipes in the book 😁

Ruthiella Yum! 😋 1y
Texreader I was googling recipes and yea, scary is a good word for it. 1y
Catsandbooks Looks great! 🇮🇸 1y
Dilara @Texreader In the tagged book, the recipes run the gamut from 70s anglo retro (lamb in a curry sauce made w/ tinned pineapple chunks & 2 teaspoons of curry powder 😱) to safe North-European fare to dishes that are very much out of my comfort zone (fermented skate) or use unobtainable ingredients (flamed puffin breasts). Main dishes involve strong-flavoured seabirds, lamb/mutton or fish, so not for everyone. All the dessert recipes sound nice tho 1y

An excellent history of the late Viking Age. The author focuses on telling it through the career of Olaf (later St Olaf) as well as Cnut the Great. He has fine touch and tells the stories with the right amount of detail.
