Ch 17

Venice 🇮🇹

She did not mention her pregnancy even to Hilda
And now she‘s sorry-
Did we know she was pregnant and I missed it?! 😵‍💫

Mellors wife …. And the scandal and ruckus of it all
And the letters and Clifford ….
And …WHEW

Duncan
The artist
Another character to not like …

Whelp what do we think of Venice ?

vonnie862 Ok, I was not the only one. I was like, "Wait, when she get pregnant? Did I miss that?" It's almost like D.H. Lawrence was not too sure about the process of women's bodies so he just happened to sneak that in thinking it would make sense. 8mo
vonnie862 I felt sorry for Mellors when his wife returned. She sounds like a joy to be around with. 8mo
vlwelser It seems like she was hoping she was pregnant right from the beginning. But it's hard to take Connie seriously. 8mo

IndoorDame We sort of knew. She talks about feeling pregnant so early I dismissed it at first because I don‘t actually believe people who say they feel differently as soon as they conceive, but then she keeps talking about it all along so I assumed it would be a real part of the plot. This was the first chapter where she actually says she knows for sure though. 8mo
AmyG I knew she would get pregnant so I wasn‘t shocked. All they talked about was her getting pregnant by someone else so…who else could it be but Mellors. And yes, his ex was a horror. (edited) 8mo
mcctrish I think right after the sex in the woods? Mellors thought it was miraculous cuz they climaxed together #howitshouldbebutneveris #menhavenoroletoplayinwomensorgasm 🙄 and Connie says something something something aka must be pregnant and DHL maybe doesn‘t know the science of conception totally 🤷🏻‍♀️ Mellors ex is his own damn fault #reapwhatyousow 8mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish did you miss the memo men are not real men unless they make the woman climax and if it‘s the same time you get a cookie … 8mo
mcctrish @TheBookHippie totally missed it 🤣 8mo
Cuilin @TheBookHippie @mcctrish this whole chapter regarding the climax highlights how ignorant DHL is regarding women‘s sexuality. I‘m a little embarrassed for him. 😳 😂 8mo
mcctrish @Cuilin I mean if you are going to get banned for sex, know what you are talking about 🤣🤣 8mo
IndoorDame Was I the only one who was furious that she left Michaelis for his rant about women climaxing solo, and then went Mellors goes off about the exact same thing she lays there silently and then decides she‘s in love with him!? 8mo
TheBookHippie @Cuilin RIGHT?!?! 😵‍💫 8mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame SO INFURIATING 🤦🏻‍♀️ 8mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish He needs a copy of Our Bodies Ourselves 😉 8mo
BookwormAHN @IndoorDame I was cringing during all of that 🤦🏼‍♀️ 8mo
mrp27 I figured she‘d get pregnant. Lawrence gets so much wrong about sex!! I laughed so many times at the ridiculousness of his sex scenes/sex talk. At the same time I was so infuriated by the whole climax together bullshit. Initially I thought Bolton spilled the beans of the affair to Bertha. She wasn‘t a pleasant character either. 8mo
DebinHawaii @mcctrish Yeah, for a novel banned for the sex scenes, there was not one that actually was in fact sexy. Most of them made me cringe. @TheBookHippie “Our Bodies Ourselves!!!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I choked on my coffee when I read that! 8mo
Larkken @IndoorDame ugh all the mens in this book are total ugh-fests about women and what to do with them. 8mo
Larkken @DebinHawaii “not one that was in fact sexy” 💯 8mo
Larkken I was annoyed at Connie (more than usual?) by the angst that wouldn‘t allow her to enjoy a single thing about the journey or the view or Venice. Blerg. 8mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii FOR REAL cringe … and well 🤣🤣🤣 glad to have made ya chuckle! 8mo
TheBookHippie @Larkken @DebinHawaii not one sexy thing … 8mo
TheBookHippie @mrp27 I wondered that too, did Mrs Bolton talk?? 8mo
mrp27 She had to of. Why else would Bertha show up out of the blue to create all that drama? 8mo
TheBookHippie @mrp27 Agreed! Did she secretly love Mellors ? 8mo
mrp27 I feel like she had the hots for him! 8mo
TheBookHippie @mrp27 Me too! 8mo
mollyrotondo @IndoorDame yeah that‘s what I said last week! Mellors says the same thing about climaxing that Michaelis said. Just because she adhered to this ridiculous fantasy with Mellors makes it better? Connie did the complete opposite from what I wanted her to do. Go find yourself!!!! 8mo
mollyrotondo When Connie finds out that the rumor is going around that Mellors‘s wife is back causing trouble and stomping around and says Connie is sleeping with her husband, Connie then starts to regret sleeping Mellors. She says she wouldn‘t want to have his baby and would be embarrassed to say the baby is his because she wouldn‘t want to be associated with a man who married a woman like his ex. She totally becomes repulsed by being connected to Mellors. 8mo
mollyrotondo So to me that proved Connie doesn‘t love Mellors either. She just wants something different. She acted irrationally and now is stuck with Mellors. She will be miserable with him in a years time. 8mo
