3 ⭐ This is a brief introduction to Ralph Waldo Emerson for children. It is very well done, even though when I look at it, I think of Mr. Lincoln. There is nothing wrong with this book per se I just found it a tad bit boring.

"The whited air
Hides hills and woods, the river, and the heaven
And veils the farm-house at the garden's end."
from "The Snow-Storm" by Ralph Waldo Emerson

What #nature looks like in my world. Supposed to snow all day.

batsy I don't mean to go on about the beauty of snow when you're having too much of it, but! It's such a gorgeous picture. 2y
readordierachel It looks so quiet 2y
Cathythoughts Lovely ✨ 2y
TheSpineView There is a quiet beauty to snow!💙 2y
merelybookish @monalyisha I havent read much of his poetry (although this poem is lovely!) I mostly have read his essays. 2y
merelybookish @SRWCF True. It will look less desolate tomorrow when (hopefully) the sun comes out. 2y
merelybookish @batsy Thanks! There is beauty. But one can have too much of a good thing. 😆😉 2y
merelybookish @erzascarletbookgasm @readordierachel @Cathythoughts @TheSpineView It is fun seeing it from your perspective. We are getting quite weary of it. 2y
BiblioLitten @merelybookish I hear you about the weariness 😅 2y
monalyisha @merelybookish Same, actually! 2y
merelybookish @BiblioLitten We have had so much snow since New Years and more in the forecast. 😳 2y
BiblioLitten @merelybookish I can only see white now but Emerson helps.😊 Stay warm 2y
batsy @merelybookish I'm recalling times in Winnipeg and I definitely hear you 😅🥶 2y
Centique Wow! That is a landscape I have never seen in real life. Beautiful but also worrying, I don‘t know how you get out in so much snow! 🧐 I hope it has eased up and it‘s not making life difficult this week 🤞🤞 2y
merelybookish @Centique Fortunately things are melting! The driveway was getting pretty narrow. I was thinking of you yesterday actually. My own #hiselderliness was saying he'd like to do one more big trip, ideally to New Zealand. And I thought, well maybe I'd get to meet Paula. 😀 Of course, he's 82 so we'll see. 2y
Centique @merelybookish I would love that!! Have only had one international visitor in over 2 years now, so it would be a total joy. 💕 Best wishes to your His Elderliness and fingers crossed! 2y
merelybookish @Centique I'll keep you posted! 😁 2y

"We teach boys to be such men as we are...We do not give them a training as if we believed in their noble nature...We exercise their understandings to the apprehension and comparison of some facts, to a skill in numbers, in words; we aim to make accountants, attorneys, engineers; but not to make able, earnest, great-hearted men."

I value the things Emerson says as long as I don't think too much about how he treated his wife.

Pickpick

#MarchIntoThe70s Day 28: A picturebook biography on Ralph Waldo Emerson. Apart from his erudite leanings, I liked how he made himself of service to his community. No task was perceived as too menial for him, as he rounded up wayward hogs as the appointed hog reeve. #CarryOnMyWaywardSon indeed. When his ideas reached thinkers from the other side of the world, his home was filled with like-minded thinkers. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-8CL
