Reading ahead for character trait of the month COURAGE in November. We seem to love Carmen Agra Deedy's books at my school. Also suitable for talking about #resistance and #nokings

I do the stuff my anxiety normally prevents me from doing. Eg. On Sunday I installed and used the vacuum system that came with my car that I got last year. Every time I looked at it I‘d freak out, afraid I‘d mess it up, etc. But after the incident with my son on Thursday (see previous post about 2 down from this) I must have needed to show myself I could still control something. :)

Visited Santa Barbara today. Was walking along State Street and looked down to my left and said “There‘s the library.” It took my kids half a block before they saw it. They do not have a library radar in their heads. 😂

3 ⭐ This book is very long. It is the story of the Gaines kids‘ trials and tribulations in building a garden. The lesson is never give up and to try new things. Just because you failed once doesn‘t mean you will only fail. You only fail if you don‘t try. The book is fine. There‘s nothing wrong with it. The illustrations are also fine. But it‘s not one I think would get checked out frequently, especially by people who don‘t recognize the name.
“She wasn't afraid.“
This book is an amazing true story about a woman who studied sharks and decided to dive into the Ocean to closer study the behavior of Sharks. This book inspires children and young adults that they can be whoever they want to be.
I would recommend this book for all ages and be introduced in all classrooms. This book talks about a true story with Eugenie Clark who studied sharks.
“Life might have its failures, but this was not it. The only true failure can come if you quit.“
This book supports lessons on growth mindset, problem-solving, and engineering concepts, aligning with STEM activities. It can inspire students to experiment with their own creations, reinforcing that mistakes are valuable learning opportunities.
