Hey readers!!! Any thoughts?!? I'm kind of wondering what the hell happened to #America???? #HMtale #NuYear and how did I get my tea to match my book cover?!?

ElishaLovesBooks The rest of my family just left on vacation 😢 to Miami 🌴so I am free to read!!!! 🤓Starting this today!! 6y
Cinfhen It's not Yeshiva break yet? Is it @ElishaLovesBooks My parents are in Miami and I know how crazzzy it gets end of January 😉but yay for you!!!! Quiet house 💗 6y
PrezBookster Love the cover! Very unique 6y

ElishaLovesBooks @Cinfhen Chicago‘s break is different than NY‘S thank goodness! It‘s going to be crazy- feels like everyone in Chicago went to Fl or Israel this year! It‘s so quiet already I don‘t know what to do with myself!🤷🏻‍♀️ 6y
Pruzy That is the best cover for that novel I have seen in a while! What‘s the pub year and publisher of that edition?? 6y
CocoReads I haven‘t gotten very far. Spent yesterday evening at my sisters to watch my niece get ready for midwinter. Then had an extreme allergy attack from her cat. I swear he rubs on me on purpose because he knows I‘m allergic. Just now getting out of bed. 6y
alisiakae The newest edition apparently has an Intro written by Atwood after the election of Trump. I keep meaning to take a look at it when I am at a bookstore. 6y
Reggie The patriarchy, the patriarchy is what happened to America. It starts small in this book but later in one of the flashbacks she goes to the bank and the worker tells her that only her husband can get money out. There‘s so much in this book. Where are you at in the book? 6y
emilyhaldi I'm 8 chapters in and dying to know more!! I ❤️ Atwood's writing. 6y
Mdargusch I still have never read any Atwood. 🤔 6y
Cathythoughts The series is pretty amazing too 👍 6y
Redwritinghood Religious extremism, maybe? It always seems to lead to oppression of women and other minorities. 6y
GlassAsDiamonds Unpopular Opinions.... I *loathed* ever second of reading this book... 6y
Cinfhen She‘s quickly becoming a favorite writer for me @emilyhaldi @Mdargusch I can‘t believe you HATED this book @GlassAsDiamonds 😲I can‘t wait to watch the series, I‘ve heard it‘s excellent @Cathythoughts 6y
Cinfhen Sorry about your allergic reaction @CocoReads hopefully you‘re feeling better today 6y
Cinfhen @Pruzy it‘s a UK edition by Virago Press 1987 hope that helps! 6y
Cinfhen I just finished the section with the dr visit @Reggie and now I see what u mean...it‘s ONLY women who can be responsible for fertility issues?!? Men are not considered sterile😲🙄🤬😱 This book is disturbing but so compulsive 6y
Tove_Reads I‘ll start reading it tomorrow. I have such a bad experience with Atwood, that I am a bit sceptical, but everyone seems to ❤️ it. 6y
Cinfhen The handmaid made a reference to the beginning of the religious sect war.... @Redwritinghood but now I can‘t find that page... 6y
Cinfhen I‘d be curious to check out that forward as well @4thhouseontheleft 6y
Redwritinghood @Cinfhen It‘s not overtly described, so I don‘t know if you could find a particular page, but the fact that religious extremism has taken over is pervasive throughout the book. I read this a long time ago, but I also remember a part early in the book where they note it was a push back against Muslim ideology, which is so prescient it‘s scary. 6y
GlassAsDiamonds @Cinfhen 😊😊😊 yeah... and not towards the mild end of hatred either, a hatred so deep it‘s a living, writhing, physical thing. I just wanted to scream at them all the whole book through - I was highly unlivable during the read! Unpopular opinions, especially with the success of the TV series which makes me wince each time it‘s mentioned. 6y
Cinfhen I haven‘t made it that far yet, but the part about THE WALL had a priest hanging and it mentioned a trial and “sect wars” @Redwritinghood it‘s hella scary 6y
GlassAsDiamonds @Tove_Reads nope, not everyone - waving the “run away from the Atwood, RUN” flag down here! Not a fan. Never going to be a fan... (edited) 6y
GlassAsDiamonds @Cinfhen (never ask me about Joan Didion either.... 😱😱😱😉😉😉). Actually, I should clarify that - never ask me about The Year of Magical Thinking which I swear everyone else in the entire world adored and I almost threw out a bus window... okay, those are my #darksecretloathing ‘s, out in the open (edited) 6y
CocoReads @Cinfhen I am feeling much better, I can even open my eyes again. 6y
GlassAsDiamonds @CocoReads always a good thing!!!!! 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 6y
CocoReads @GlassAsDiamonds I agree. I was over there on Friday for hours and had no trouble but last night for an hour and a half was apparently too much. Sigh.... 6y
Cinfhen I‘m almost scared to say this but ......I have ZERO interest in anything HP @GlassAsDiamonds 😬😬 6y
GlassAsDiamonds @Cinfhen 😂😂😂 Ooohhh we have got the ball rolling tonight!! Good thing this isn‘t Instagram, we‘d both be tarred and feathered by now!! 6y
GlassAsDiamonds @CocoReads eww! Maybe just to much strain? Your system took all it could then... no functioning for you until it worked itself out again. Yeeesh! Hope you feel better as rapidly. 6y
BookDame I read this last year. It‘s a scary book for women. 6y
Booksbymybed Nearly halfway through, couldn't put it down, scary read as it is. My understanding that sect wars brought on the regime and an ecological crisis of some sort (she mentiones a bunch of nuclear power plants exploding along san andreas fault among others) brought fertility issues. The fact that one or the other or both can be seen as a possibility these days scares the living daylight out of me tbh. Not even sure I can watch the series. 6y
Cinfhen Ah, I haven't gotten there yet... it's starting to "make sense"!?!!! I know it's completely terrifying @Booksbymybed what year was this first written??? 6y
Cinfhen Hahaha @GlassAsDiamonds now I'm wondering if I should delete my comment😉 6y
Booksbymybed @Cinfhen 1985 it seems, so I'm guessing back then it was dystopian while now it feels like we're on our way to it. 😱 6y
JaclynW I LOVED THIS BOOK!! The audio by Claire Danes is amazing! Yes, America has a big problem right now. I'm not even sure where to begin....😣😲😠🤢😨😩😢 6y
JaclynW Lovely picture by the way. 😊 6y
tif I can also recommend the audio read by Claire Danes. It's scary how believable the events in this book seem given the current climate in America. 6y

Taken early this morning. Almost feeling like this is a naughty romance that I want to hide from my parents (my parents are staying with me at the moment before heading to Italy for a few weeks)

Jess7 Haha! #OwnIt - I do understand how you may feel, but I hate that so many of us feel like we have to hide the fact that we want to read her book and/or support her when #trump supporters are shouting from the roof tops. I'm excited to read this one. I have heard she gets more personal in this one than she did with her others. #ImSTILLwithHer 7y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders I'm reading right now and it's been stood read. She's just offering her personal story from before, during and after the campaign. 7y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders Also feel like - you shouldn't hide reading it - keep showing you resist what's sitting in the WH now. 7y
