Makkai is a talented writer and there‘s a lot going on here but it took wayyyyy too long for this book to make an impact. Better editing would have elevated this from so-so to SO GOOD. There are traces of her previous writing style but the whole podcast troupe is starting to wear thin for me. A professor returns to her boarding school 23 years after her roommate there was murdered to teach a mini class on podcast production. 👇🏽
Cinfhen With the help of her student sleuths and the advantage of age, Bodie begins to realize the wrong person was convicted in her roommate‘s murder. Lots of social commentary on elitism, memories, misogyny, race, cancel culture and the infatuation with true crime and dead females. Too bad this book dragged because there was a good book buried inside these pages. 2w

TrishB Yes I think it could have been a good book and I‘m all about the messaging- but even that got lost! Well done for finishing, I‘m queen of the #miserybail I think! 2w
BarbaraBB Very insight review, thanks! 2w
Cinfhen Absolutely better editing could have fixed this book and about 3 dozen other books I‘ve recently read @TheAromaofBooks @Cuilin @AmyG @TrishB @BarbaraBB oh well!!! 2w
squirrelbrain I agree completely - it would have been so much more effective had some of the padding been cut out. 2w
