I‘ve been writing, “I heard NOTHING about this in school” waaaay to often.

This was an incredible story. It reads like a novel which is quite the feat considering the detail. The author writes in a way that grabs your heart.

I gave it 4⭐️s instead of 5 because, like His Boys in the Boat, there were several areas where I wanted it to move on—enough detail already.

Don‘t miss this one! #forgottenhistory #historymatters

mabell I LOVED Boys in the Boat! (And that is not my type of book at all). Such an amazing story, and Joe - inspirational 💕 1y
Maria514626 @mabell I was so surprised I liked Boys in the Boat. 😄 Kind of like Seabiscuit. A book about a rowing team—or a racehorse? Mmmm. Pass. SO WRONG! 1y

I first read this book in 2019, astonished and surprised that the subject matter was so...immediately relevant.

Given the events surrounding the 2020 election and the subsequent insurrection at the Capitol building - this book obviously hits different now.

See the comments for my review, since it did not fit here. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

NotoriousMBG As a student of history, I often refer to a hashtag used by historians online - “#HistoryMatters“. This book is the embodiment of that sentiment. Not because I feel like we are actually on the road to another civil war (we're not), but because it gives context to present the present day. History does not repeat itself. It echoes. Understanding the events that led up to the civil war can help us better understand the divisions we live with now. 3y

Again, wrong on the historical points. This was not the case for black or brown people in America. Then again, they seemed fine with taking Indian land and outraged when they were told land wasn‘t theirs so they had to leave. 🙄 White privilege on display again, here. #factsmatter #historymatters #whyhistorymatters #ChristineWoodside #LibertariansOnThePrairie #WomenAlsoKnowHistory #LauraRoseReadathon

The really creepy part, although their fire was significantly smaller, it also was around the roof. We need to preserve our historical sites, whether they‘re religious or secular, your particular history or religion or culture, or not. We are all@connected, and we all lose when we abandon history and culture. #historymatters #historicalsites #culturalvalue #historicalvalue #humanvalue

tournevis Wow! I had not seen that. Historically, this is just as significant! Damn! Yesterday was not a good day! Argh! 5y
GingerAntics @tournevis it really was not. Hopefully today is a better day. Luckily there were no injuries or losses in that fire either, so there is that on the “good day” column for yesterday. 5y
tournevis @GingerAntics There's that. 🤞 5y

BookwormAHN That's quite creepy. 5y
Lcsmcat There‘s an otherwise intelligent guy at work who thinks that because it‘s Holy Week the Nôtre Dame Fire was not an accident. Don‘t let him hear about this one or the conspiracy theories will get totally out of hand. ? 5y
GingerAntics @Lcsmcat for the love of whatever started both fires. 🤦🏼‍♀️ 5y
GingerAntics @BookwormAHN right? It‘s like god or the universe or whatever you believe in is saying “stop being a**holes in my name. I will burn ALL the roofs!!!” 5y

The world existed before STEM was the thing do the day, and the world will suffer for the rejection of the social sciences now. One day, the world will see its error and learn to find the proper balance of the two. Without both, society cannot exist.

How Rome fell - and why... or Why Americans REALLY need to study history - and not just their own. (3/3) #history #historymatters #thomascahill

I have no time for people who give lip service to Christian morals, Liberty, freedom, equality, etc. with absolutely nothing of substance to back it up. Either you believe in these things, or you don‘t. If you don‘t, you shouldn‘t be trying to run this country.

One day, this is what someone will write in a book about the Rise and Fall of America...along with every scholar wondering why Americans abhorred history so very much. When that day comes, historians will no longer be told to do something “real.” They will be appreciated. I hope I live to see that day.
