I‘ve been writing, “I heard NOTHING about this in school” waaaay to often.

This was an incredible story. It reads like a novel which is quite the feat considering the detail. The author writes in a way that grabs your heart.

I gave it 4⭐️s instead of 5 because, like His Boys in the Boat, there were several areas where I wanted it to move on—enough detail already.

Don‘t miss this one! #forgottenhistory #historymatters

mabell I LOVED Boys in the Boat! (And that is not my type of book at all). Such an amazing story, and Joe - inspirational 💕 1y
Maria514626 @mabell I was so surprised I liked Boys in the Boat. 😄 Kind of like Seabiscuit. A book about a rowing team—or a racehorse? Mmmm. Pass. SO WRONG! 1y

Woah. This story is dark, morbid, and absolutely infuriating. It is a must-read! I had no idea about this piece of history until my high school students performed the one act play, These Shining Lives (and took it all the way to state!), so when I saw this book I knew I had to read it! The writing itself drove me a little crazy, but overall it is well researched and an important, dark topic that is finally brought to light. #ForgottenHistory

hermyknee This sounds like something Mairead needs to read! 7y
AndreaReads @hermyknee Yes! Tell her she needs to read it! Also, ask the librarians if they can purchase a copy for the school? Also, do you like how we're commenting here, but also texting at the same time? So talented... 🤣 (edited) 7y
hermyknee @AndreaReads We are weirdo nerds with passions for education and literature - and now we have Litsy AND text - what will happen if they combine the two?! We'll be unstoppable literary fiends. 7y
RaimeyGallant It's coming up on my #TBR. Can't wait. :) 7y
