Now I‘m caught up with #HaikuADay ! Today‘s is inspired by the Lemongrass Chicken Bánh Mi sandwich I ate for lunch yesterday after a training. We totally stunk up the conference room but it was so worth it—I‘m still thinking about its perfection!
Best bites tend to be
Messy, smelly, glorious,
Bánh mì haunts my dreams
Another chilly, rainy day! I woke up early to get chores done, and now my goal is to finish this book. I'm working my way through my town's One Book list. Every year, they ask residents to submit a book for the community reading program. In August, we get to vote on the best one. 📚
It‘s a war story, but it‘s more than that. It‘s an exploration of whether being “neutral” and being “innocent” are the same thing, or even compatible. #bookspin and Q for #LitsyAtoZ @TheAromaofBooks @Texreader (photo is Saigon 1955 from the Internet.)
My #bookspin and #doublespin for June. Maybe next month I‘ll pay closer attention to what I put at number 12! @TheAromaofBooks
This was recommended to me by a bookstore owner. She said it was the book about women in Vietnam that should have gotten the attention The Women did. It's a look at the wives of US advisors sent to Saigon in the early days of the war. The setting is vividly drawn with both time and place. The writing is beautiful in this character-driven novel that explores guilt, responsibility to others, and intervention vs interference.
During this blog we turn the Authors Spotlight onto Lukas Klessig and his book “Words With My Father: A Bipolar Journey Through Turbulent Times”.
Words With My Father offers a gripping portrait of the evolution of a young man's mental illness and how it manifested into a dramatic and often dangerous existence through the turbulence of the Civil Rights, Peace and Conservation movements.
