Truth about Stacey | Ann M Martin
post image

1. I am not named after anyone.
2. I enjoyed The Babysitters Club books when I was a child. It makes sense that they had a character named Stacey in the books; it was a somewhat common name in the 80s. 🙂 (But she doesn't spell her name right. The correct spelling is Stacy 😉)

I say that I have a hero I‘ve never met, and he knew nothing of me but cared enough to save me, and millions of others. The research was controversial but it‘s a story that people should know, because Banting acknowledged the dogs and their contribution to the research. Without them it wouldn‘t have happened. A huge part of Canadian history.

Side note: I lived and worked just down the road from his house in London for 10 years.

I started this book a while ago. It is a bit dense with information. Tonight i picked it up to finish and see if it is reasonable to follow. It does have recipes I like, Most are easy. Some will be challenging to flavor (plain potato…) in the method that is recommended- but i do like the information and recipes provided. I will try this specifically for a few weeks and see where I end up. #hyggereadinghour #midwintersolace #naturalitsy #mtcookbook

ravenlee I‘ve read a couple of Neal Barnard‘s books and while they seem sound his palate seems really limited. None of his recipes have much flavor of any kind. I would guess his endorsements would be in a similar vein. 🤞🏻 hope it works out though. 4mo
Tamra Maybe you could flavor up the recipes with spices & herbs you enjoy. I do that all the time. 4mo
Chrissyreadit @Tamra - yes- this is part of my learning journey for sure! I‘m hoping to become comfortable with seasonings. 4mo

#IdiomInsight

When people say, “I‘m #CoolAsACucumber they‘re letting you know they‘re calm, composed, & unbothered, even if a situation is stressful. An early mention of the idiom was in British poet John Gay‘s poem “New Song on New Similies” in 1732: “Cool as a cucumber could see the rest of womankind.” The phrase quickly gained popularity throughout the 1730s-40s & has been in use ever since.

I‘m going with a cooling cucumber sorbet from the⬇️

I really enjoyed this not quite a thriller but also not really a mystery. Told in a true crime style it was engaging and I had a hard time putting it down.

A sweet picture book taking a look at different types of ability differences people have. They cover wheelchair use, autism, diabetes, and many others in the context of a group of diverse kids doing garden work together. #Disability #PictureBook #KidsBook

.... she quoted Voltaire: "One great use of words is to hide our thoughts." She explained that people are afraid of death, so they keep themselves safe by hiding the actual word. But that's so dumb, I thought. So immature. The word doesn't cause the thing to happen. Cancer and overdoses and airplane crashes cause the thing to happen....

We looked up denial next.

Book #55
3.5/5
This was a pretty good novel - unique storyline, good storytelling, held my interest. It did make me question my own moral compass a bit, because though the main character is guilty of 3 Murders (it's right there on the cover, so not a spoiler), I really found myself hoping that she wouldn't go to jail. 🤔
