Mehso-so

Unfortunately, I found this one to be a bit boring. I liked the general idea behind the story, it just couldn't keep my attention. The story was meaningful, though. I liked how it ended even if the middle was a little hard for me to get through.

Mehso-so

TV-writer Elliott's 6-year relationship with Gus implodes after he books a session with a sex worker but he learns to be more comfortable with himself and starts to overcome his addictions.

A book that is probably funnier if you are part of the milieu depicted but there were too many refs to TV shows I don't watch or singers I'm only marginally aware of, if that, not to mention places & brands I don't recognise for me to really enjoy it

I don't know how I've never seen this tag before. The above is from my review, when I read this 5 years ago.

Pickpick

This story of ILLC, a nursing home for disabled kids and teens, as told by its residents and staff is bleakly honest about the greed, abuse, and other systemic problems that plague the institutions that house the most vulnerable. Vivid characters put a human face on this story and temper its bleakness with the hope of people who really care. The full cast audiobook performance makes this powerful story even more affecting. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Pickpick

I remember when the author was doing a ton of PR for this and now there's nothing. It totally needs to be yelled about some more bc it was really good!! A story of the musketeers after the OG Ms have "retired". Tania is the daughter of a musketeer and has longed to be the heroine of her father's stories. The problem? Her mother's worry and her poor health. A story with #disability rep, sisterhood, ⚔️ fights, challenging ourselves, and self-love

"If you take one thing from this book let it be this: even the dying are alive. If you're a reader with a life limiting diagnosis: I see you. Grieving your body is continuous, sometimes the pain is intolerable, it is never an act of cowardice to talk about your life. You can't control the reactions of others, only what you do with it. Both the physical and mental aspects of our lives are intolerable some days, and that is okay. Ask for help, ⬇️

Pickpick

An incredibly emotive collection of poems charting Hannah's 163 days on a High Dependency Unit when she was 17 years old, during which time she was diagnosed with a life-limiting set of illnesses. The parts I found hard to read were those extracts from her medical notes in which consultants, doctors and nurses recorded their opinions that Hannah couldn't possibly be as distressed as she was presenting to them, or in which they give their ⬇️

Bookwomble ... impressions without having actually asked what she was experiencing.
This record of confinement in hospital is followed by a series of poems about her life after discharge into community palliative care, which is different in style, but just as emotional.
If it's dark at times, Hannah's personhood shines brightly through. 5⭐ collection. (CW for medical procedures, terminal illness, & co.)
