Not book but music related. Enjoy this American band‘s Celtic music. They will be in Fairfield, CT for a Christmas tour 12/1 at the Edgerton Center of the Performing Arts. 🎻🎼

Cinfhen I bet they are amazing 2w

#MOvember #catchup
Work has been so busy lately that I feel like I am running on fumes so I really #cherish a little #metime when I can unwind. Of course a gorgeous view of the bay, cold brew coffee with coconut milk, avocado toast with spicy garlic aioli & a book are cherished parts of my Saturday morning as well. This book doesn‘t have much love but it‘s a library e-book so I‘m going in to see what I think. Happy Saturday Everyone! 🌺

Linsy That view, that food ... everything looks amazing!!! 2w

We Sold Our Souls | Grady Hendrix
post image

I #cherish any author who can put into words what #music can do and mean for people, just like what Grady does here. There are two pages that go along with this paragraph and they were powerful. #Movember @Cinfhen

TrishB ❤️❤️ 2w
Billypar I'm reading 'Paperbacks from Hell' now and Hendrix is cracking me up! 2w
batsy That's really nice! I need to read him. 2w

Reggie @batsy yeah, he had his finger on the pulse of the world in this one. 2w
Suet624 Beautiful 1w
Reggie @Suet624 he kinda writes horror with heart. I‘ve only read 2 of his but I will pick up anything by him. 1w

Pale Fire | Vladimir Nabokov
post image

This is one book I #cherish both because it's a favorite and remembering how I picked it up. I was browsing in a Borders (gives you an idea how long ago this was) and started flipping through it. Never read any Nabokov, never read anything that played games with form (wasn't a huge reader at the time in general). I started thinking 'what IS this?' I took it to the reading area, read it until the place closed, and took it home.
#MOvember @Cinfhen

Blaire Nice! I‘ve owned this Nabakov forever and not read it. You‘ve inspired me to move it up my tbr. 2w
Billypar @Blaire Hope you like it when you get to it! I love it when I finally read one of the elderly members of my tbr shelf- it feels like an accomplishment somehow. 2w
BarbaraBB I recognize that, the feeling of an accomplishment. My most recent read had been on my shelves from 2014. Anyhow, Pale Fire is on my tbr and your review is really inspiring. 2w

Reggie Insert some other titles, insert Hastings ( a wonderful book and dvd/game rental place that has also now been closed for a while) and I know exactly what you mean. 🙂 2w
Cinfhen Love the back story for this book 💕thanks for sharing 2w
Cathythoughts I love this story too ❤️👍 2w
Billypar @BarbaraBB I'm due for another one- I started 2019 with The Idiot, which had been languishing since 2009. Maybe I'll make it a New Year's tradition - out with the old TBR ☺ 2w
Billypar @Reggie Yeah I still hope to find sea change reads that change my entire perspective on what a book can do. But there's something special when it happens when you're completely new, whether it's books or any other hobby. 2w
Billypar @Cinfhen @Cathythoughts It's fun to think of your favorite reads where you actually remember where you were while reading it and how the book was affecting you. 2w
Cathythoughts @Billypar it is !! The one I most remember is Lord of The Rings .. over 40 years ago ... in college then - In a bedsit - reading it at night on my own ... terrified 😳 2w
Billypar @Cathythoughts Yes- definitely have a few reading memories of being scared. House of Leaves on a family vacation in Florida while everyone is asleep and there's a thunderstorm 😨 2w

Doxology | Nell Zink
post image

I decided to #cherish my time and bail halfway through Nell Zink's Doxology. This big picture, multigenerational novel started out strong but time was moving too fast, historical events were piling up, and I lost interest in the characters. Still points for the Sassy magazine reference. 😉
I'm sure Madonna would support my life is too short decision!
And I LOVED this video back in the day!
#movember @cinfhen

vivastory Have you read any other Zink? I've been meaning to check out her books for awhile 2w
merelybookish @vivastory No first one. I think this is larger scale than her previous works so I might like her earlier work better. She is very good at dialogue and setting a quirky scene. But she was trying to make some kind of meaning out of the about generational shift between Gen X and now. And her characters were sacrificed to that and it just kind of lost me. 2w
Lindy @vivastory I really enjoyed 2w

vivastory @Lindy I see that has been described as "mordantly funny" Right up my alley 2w
vivastory @merelybookish That can be really tough to pull off for sure. Rushdie manages it, & a few others, but I think it's really hard to maintain memorable characters & engage in grand generational/cultural arguments. 2w
merelybookish @vivastory Agreed! And my own taste runs more "small moments in a life"than to larger sweeping saga. So maybe this book would suit others. The 90s nostalgia was fun, especially the indie music scene she describes. But once we were into 2008 and soil protection in Ethiopia, I was ? 2w
merelybookish @Lindy Thanks! One of my IRL reading pals really like that one as well! So I may give her another chance. 🙂 2w
BarbaraBB I bailed on the tagged book by her for just those reasons. I think she‘s just not for me! 2w
merelybookish @BarbaraBB Good to know! I feel we have similar taste. I might give Mislaid a try sometime. But she may not be for me either. :)
2w
BarbaraBB @merelybookish I think we have similar taste too. I‘d say don‘t bother with Mislaid. It was just okay for me. ☺️ 2w

Love Story | Erich Segal

(Day 1 - #Cherish)

*Oliver absolutely cherished Jenny in Love Story. Sad book, sad movie. Check out Ryan O‘Neal & Ali MacGraw in “Love Story” (Erich Segal) in 1970 and again in 2016 (bottom left), when they reunited for the play “Love Letters” (A. R. Gurney).
Famous quote from the book: “Love means never having to say you‘re sorry.”
