Found this re-telling of The Grimm' s "Six Swans" to be compelling and evocative. There was beautiful world building and Sorcha, the heroine, was strong. I found the last few chapters dragged. The fairy tale was complete so they were dedicated to completing the love story and I'm not much of a romance reader.
Still, it was good. And I think I'll take a break from fairy tales for a while.

vivastory 👋👋 Hope you are well 1w
merelybookish @vivastory Yes! Heading to London on Friday so excited about that! How are you? 1w
vivastory That *is* exciting. I hope you have a great time 💙 I'm doing well. Doing my best to carry on with all of the nonsense in the world. I'm sure you know how it is. Reading a Lethem doorstop of a novel, packed with life and wild characters (Fortress of Solitude,) and today started an interesting book of short stories by Proulx: Bad Dirt (edited) 1w
merelybookish @vivastory I voted in the Canadian election today. Hoping the nonsense candidate doesn't win here too. I started The Safekeep which is on the Women's Fiction prize shortlist. I also am trying to decide what to take on the airplane. 1w
vivastory Keeping my fingers crossed for you 🤞 I see that The Safekeep was published last year but for some reason it seems like it was a few years ago 1w

This very simple and charming story is about a girl who is sent back to the islands of her birth to live with her grandparents. She has vague memories of her time there, but one very strong one: her baby brother being swept out to see in his boat-like cradle. She is determined to find out what became of him.

I really wanted to love this. I do love the term hagitude and I am finally embracing my cronehood. But there was too much psychology and not enough mythology for me. And then the author states that there should be gathering places for women who were born as women, basically saying that it's OK to exclude trans folx in certain cases. So yeah, not great. We don't all need the exact same experience to relate.

Soscha Wowed the cover though. 3w
PirateJenny @Soscha yeah it's a great cover and I love the chapter opener illustrations. 3w

April‘s #DoubleSpin is clear—and is also my #44 pick for #50x50. For my #BookSpin, I get to pick a book published in the 1950s—70s for #192025. Above are the three I‘m thinking about… any recommendations?

Suet624 Yay for Anam Cara. I‘ve only read A Separate Peace (as a teenager) out of the three and I liked it. (edited) 4w
TheBookHippie I like them all 👀🤫🙃 4w
BarbaraJean @Suet624 I'm really looking forward to Anam Cara. It's been on my list for so long and it's nice to have the “assignment“ to read it! @TheBookHippie Good news is I'll be reading them all at some point before the end of the year!! 4w

TheAromaofBooks Oh Black Sheep is one of my favorite Heyer romances!! 4w
BarbaraJean @TheAromaofBooks Oh, that‘s good to know! I‘ve been leaning toward Black Sheep anyway because I‘m pretty sure that will be a nice escapist read—the other two, not so much 😆 4w

I read this a long time ago but really loved it. I keep meaning to read more in the series. Happy St. Patrick's Day to all who observe it. My husband made this Guinness and Baileys Irish creme frosting cake. (He used Guinness zero in the cake, and Irish cream flavored coffee syrup with Irish butter for the frosting to make it sober friendly.) My tea was Irish Breakfast. Carrigaline pottery.

Soubhiville I love your tea set! 1mo

4 Stars • Tricked is the fourth book in The Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne. In this novel, Atticus O'Sullivan, a 2,000-year-old Druid, teams up with the Navajo trickster god Coyote to fake his death and avoid the wrath of Norse gods. This leads to confrontations with skinwalkers and other supernatural entities. The book includes themes of cunning, betrayal, and survival, maintaining the series' blend of humor, urban fantasy, and mythology.
