New month… new Bible study. I‘m starting this one today. I just finished her study through the book of Romans. It was easy to work through in the time I have each morning. And if for some reason I had to pause, it was easy to pick it back up and continue. The blue journal is for writing the scriptures down so that I can hopefully remember them better. The green journal is for answering the study questions because I don‘t like writing in workbooks.

“Many who are working among the suffering…thought they were going as the benefactors but they invariably found themselves being helped and liberated themselves.”

(Just one of the insights from this book that resonates with me. This little book is one of my favorites as well as the book of Job in the Bible is my favorite.)

…other people, when what they needed was a bit of moral pressure on themselves to ask: Why are we doing this at all? If we must have a war, is this really the best way of fighting it? Are these ‘sacrifices‘ (another convenient ‘religious‘ word; people spoke of ‘the final sacrifice‘, forgetting that in the Bible human sacrifice was condemned over and over again) the best way both of winning the war and of preparing ourselves (cont. in comments)

Although this is billed as a mystery, the reason I loved this book was Thumps Dreadfulwater, his friends, and the town of Chinook. I felt like I was solving a mystery with the group of retired gents I see at the coffeehouse in the morning. Wonderful Canadian author and great example of the right book at the right time.

TheKidUpstairs I keep meaning to read this series! 5mo

4 Stars • "The Mothers and Daughters of the Bible Speak" by Shannon Bream explores faith lessons from nine Biblical families, focusing on the women. It's aimed at readers seeking spiritual guidance through historical female perspectives in the Bible.
