Exit to Eden | Anne Rice
Mehso-so

Sometimes this book got at what it was reaching for, and sometimes it was clouded by 80s conceptions and language, and sometimes it sank like a stone under the exoticising racism and transphobia of something written by a rich white lady from New Orleans. A roller coaster, to be sure.

Exit to Eden | Anne Rice

I will say this about this weirdly constructed book - the vacation interlude sure makes me want to take a rich fuck vacation, a thing that I will -never- be able to do

The Saint | Tiffany Reisz

People keep asking me what I‘m reading. The past month I was traveling and preparing for an upcoming musical theater gig, planning kiddo‘s birthday party, getting her to her various obligations; I‘ve got zero bandwidth to spare. What‘s the best thing to tell people when the truth is: copious amounts of digital smut because I can‘t concentrate on anything else? 😆🤪🤣

Ruthiella Haha. 😆 Maybe just always keep the first page of some “OK for the public” book on tap and say that is what you are reading. (edited) 4mo
Prairiegirl_reading 🤣🤣 whatever works!! 4mo
Suet624 I always go with “the world is falling apart and I have no bandwidth for reading.” 4mo

GingerAntics This is when you pop out something they definitely will not ask more about like “I‘m muddling through Voltaire in the original French. Just me and my French dictionary.” The only follow up question you‘ll even get is “why?” Say something vague and academic sounding… “intellectual edification” or “warding my brain against Alzheimer‘s” and people will leave you alone. They‘ll think you‘re vaguely nuts, but they will definitely never ask what… 4mo
GingerAntics …you‘re reading again! 4mo

ravenlee @GingerAntics I love it! Maybe I should tell people I‘m wading through the complete works of Joseph Campbell and Mircea Eliade again (I dabbled in the past, with the intention of an as-yet-unrealized deep dive into both). It used to be a conversation stopper! 😆 4mo
GingerAntics @ravenlee see! That‘s the spirit! 4mo

Pickpick

This was a low pick, but will continue the series. This is pure smut with a bit of plot. They are sex wizards, so they have to perform different types of sex acts to conjure magic. Dom comes to a magical school with a letter of introduction and you learn everything as he does.

Finished on 5/11.

Slogging through this one for the sake of book club tonight. You would think a book about a dominatrix would be super interesting. This is not.

I adore this story even more with the annotations. Jasper‘s chapter was wild and crazy. I just can‘t help loving Laurie and Toby even more, especially with the little glimpses at the writing, inspiration, and background stuff throughout from the annotations. Toby‘s LMP recipe was hilarious. This edition is an absolute celebration of Laurie and Toby. It also promises a second book for them. I would adore that so very much!

It‘s SO amusing that a book called “For Real” would have annotations that are just so… well… real. 🤷🏼‍♀️
