“I try to remember another time when I felt like this and am sad because I can‘t remember a time, and happy, too, because I cannot.”

A quiet, lovely novella about a young Irish girl who goes to stay with distant relatives when her mother is having yet another baby and there are just so many mouths to feed. Full of phenomenal writing and filled with the most beautiful, yet simple, passages & messages. Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

LaraReads Also, just realizing that the film based on it is nominated tonight at the Oscars for Best International Feature, which is super cool and I just HAVE to see it now! 13mo
Librarybelle I keep saying I really need to read this one! 😂 13mo
LaraReads @Librarybelle well, it‘s a super quick read/listen, yet quite impactful. 13mo

Love, love, love the In Death series! Even the short stories are wonderful. Spending time with Eve, Roarke, Peabody, Dr Meara and the rest always takes me to my happy reading place.

Librarybelle I have to read this series! 14mo
Cinfhen I LOVE how a murder series is your happy place!! 😂😂 you sound like @TrishB who loves getting cozy with serial killer books 👯‍♀️ 14mo

Cinfhen I‘m sure you can‘t wait @TrishB 😁 14mo
Bluebird @Cinfhen 😂😂 yup. This one and Inspector Gamache are my go to series. They are more character driven, so I don‘t think i‘m quite as hardcore as @TrishB (edited) 14mo
Cinfhen Hahaha - no one is quite as hardcore as @TrishB xxxxx 14mo
TrishB @Cinfhen @Bluebird lol 😂 these must be good if you like them alongside Three Pines! 14mo

Wow. This graphic memoir of a musician and artist, who develops a rare condition after taking a headache tablet on vacation, is moving, harrowing and so heartbreaking. Such a scary story, as ‘friends‘ abandon her abroad, she goes into a coma, loses her sight, at some point her hearing and develops a terrible skin condition. As she briefly regains some sight and races against time to collaborate on this memoir, i felt for her so much. Inspiring.

Light pick for me…the creepy factor helped win me over. Short stories are not my usual reading genre, but I could not help picking this up because of the author. There were pieces of the story that I wished were fleshed out a bit more - vague connections and statements made that I really wanted to have more explanations or further exploration. Overall, it kept me on the edge of my seat, and I had to see what happened next. #SundayBuddyRead

My library hold came in last night, so I thought I‘d spend my time packing & listening to this audio. Before I even selected which books to bring on my trip the audio was over. It‘s a tightly crafted story of family, kindness, grief and love. So poignant/ not a word wasted. Stunning narration. #52Books23 #Under200Pages

This was only a short book (I read it in one sitting) but it packed a powerful punch in terms of the veracity of the familial relationships portrayed.

40 year old Ida goes on holiday to her family‘s Norwegian cabin, where making sense of her life leads to conflicts with the rest of her family.

It‘s already winging it‘s way to you Meg! @Megabooks

This short-but-sweet guide to poetry is written for the aspiring poet but enlightens readers, too. It refreshed my memories of AP Literature: scansion, metric patterns, imagery. It makes me want to read more poetry. #52Books #under200pages

Librarybelle Nice! 1y
AshleyHoss820 I have this! I once accidentally bought books for the right class, wrong section and this was one of them! 🫣😂 I may have to pick this back up! I‘m taking a 3-week course (my university calls it the J-term) on poetry. We‘re using How to Write a Poem by Tania Runyan and the tagged book. Poetry isn‘t my strong suit, so I‘m trying to get better at it. ☺️ This would probably be helpful! (edited) 1y

Olga Maria has been killed and her best friend Laura must find out who did it. In a manic and chattery account she tells about her investigation in possible suspects and she reveals about corruption and impunity in #ElSalvador. As her anger and panic grow, Laura talks faster and faster. It is kind of funny if it weren‘t so sad.

This is a little gem of a book. I am always impressed by well written novellas and authors who can pack a punch in a small book. #Pantone2023 #EmpireYellow #52books #under200pages
