pickI read parts of this book but mostly listened to it. Krakauer himself reads his account of the infamous 1996 Everest expedition that resulted in a tragedy. Through most of the story he remains the journalist and although that‘s admirable at times it felt more like reading a report instead of a NF novel. Too many facts and figures to my taste but other than that a sad and fascinating story.

Suet624 I read the Outside Magazine article that he wrote immediately following the event. It was raw and he had not yet fully processed what had happened,. The article had quite a few details about the female hiker that he wasn't able to put in the book because she threatened him with legal action. I read the book too but it never quite felt the same as that article. I think of it often. 3y

Suet624 @Graywacke Oh, definitely. I've read the book. It's just that he wrote the article almost immediately after the event and he was still beside himself with shock and grief. He was also very upset about Sandy Pittman's behavior and he was very explicit about all of her exploits. 3y
