Im on a serious Roman kick right now. Ive been watching Mary Beard‘s Roman documentaries. I love her style. #SPQR

Severnmeadows I‘m a Mary Beard fan. I like that on Desert Island Discs the book she chose was the Odyssey rather than a Latin text. (She didn‘t say whether she meant the original Greek text 😊) 8mo

Current Reads 🌹🐞

I‘m delving into my Halloween TBR a little bit early and reading a spooky Buffy style retelling of Alice in Wonderland called A Blade so Black. This book is released October 9th by @titan_books and I‘m super excited to dive in! I love Alice in Wonderland and retellings of it are my kryptonite. 🐞 #aliceinwonderland #retellings #pompeii #classics #classicsstudent #classicalstudies #rome #spqr #newreleases

Birdsong28 Have you read the Insanity series by Cameron Jace? They are a must if you love Alice in Wonderland retellings. Love them myself will have to try your suggestion. 1y
Sophoclessweetheart @Birdsong28 I‘ve never heard of them!! I must track some down‘ 😱😍 1y

Good morning everyone! ✨🖤

What are your plans this weekend?
I am hoping to have a deep clean in the house today, take some new photos, play in the garden with my daughter and at some point read more SPQR. It‘s unusual for us to be home at the weekend so we‘re going to make the most of it. #spqr #classicist #classicsstudent #bibliophile #bookaddict #booklover #currentlyreading #bookish #bookblog #bookworm

Cathythoughts Good morning 🌞... I‘m planning to take it easy ... read & rest 👍🏻 1y

Dear Litsy,
Why do you think original publication dates never seem to be listed on Goodreads or Litsy? When I googled it I found this GR notes from some manual perhaps for ppl working on the site but I've yet to see it listed in book details. Doesn't it seem like info you'd really want to know? I just want to know when books were actually written!

Sincerely,
Tearing My Hair Out (😆)

Lcsmcat So agree!!! 2y
emilyhaldi I agree 👍🏻👍🏻 2y

DivaDiane I always want to know the original publication year! 2y
Marchpane I find Goodreads can be relied on to have the original publication date, but only on the web version, not the mobile app. I use their dates for my #192019challenge and haven't run into any issues (I do occasionally cross-check them with Wikipedia) 2y
LibrarianRyan As a GR librarian, I can tell you it's part of the GR Librarians Manual. When your putting in a new book you put original date and pub date. Both are searchable fields. 2y
Natasha.C.Barnes @LibrarianRyan @Marchpane I guess I don't use the web version enough! I wish it were available via the app! 2y
batsy Yes, I tend to use Goodreads on desktop for this reason. I've usually found the original date to be listed. The app version is ok for a quick browse but it has limited features, sadly. 2y

It's been a busy and stressful last month and have had little time to read😔 but I'm on a little vacay now and that means sparing some time to dive into a book😁 have high hopes for this one! #finally #vacayreading #spqr

Pickpick

This book is outstanding. An excellent, accessible history of Ancient Rome, in which Beard not only relates the history of the first millennium of the city but also reviews the historical record and past scholarship. With colloquial language and occasionally wry commentary, this is a must read for armchair historians interested in the topic. It's not only interesting, it's entertaining.

Eastbriar I've been wanting to read this but I've been a bit intimidated by it 😬 I think I'll have to pick it up now though! 3y

BeththeBookDragon Just picked it up from the library. With everything I else I got, the size was a bit daunting. It just got bumped up the stack! 3y
Angeles The audiobook is great as well if you have a long road trip this week 3y
