Finished my last 2023 read early this afternoon (The Rose Code by Kate Quinn) and this was my final count for the year.
I don‘t know if I will set a book goal for 2024.
pick4 ⭐This book may be a little long, but the story is heartfelt. It is about a selfish king who wants presents and gifts from everybody. The one present he can‘t have is a quilt from the lady in the mountains. She only makes quilts for people who can‘t afford them. She tells the king give of yourself and I will make you a quilt. The king will not do this. Instead, he punishes the old lady and in turn just punishes himself.
pick4.5 ⭐This is a story about an Egyptian American girl who is going to an American school in the third grade for the first time. She becomes a little embarrassed by both her lunch and her language being something the kids don‘t know. With the encouragement of the teacher, she uses her grandmother‘s quilt to help show everybody that language is unique, beautiful, amazing, and helps make everybody friendlier.
Several years ago my sister participated in a quilt challenge based on a Beatles theme. She chose to make a quilt of “Carry That Weight” while another quilter used #letitbe as their inspiration. The organizers put together a book of everyone‘s creations. #volumesandvocals

pickSweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt was written by Deborah Hopkinson. I absolutely love this story. This story is about Clara, who is a slave. She uses her skills to construct a quilt to create a map that her master does not recognize. This quilt gets her and others to freedom.
