Definitely not my normal fare, but I‘m glad I am venturing out of my comfort zone. Can‘t wait for Legends & Lattes.

Bookshops & Bonedust | Travis Baldree

I put a hold on Legends & Lattes and Remarkably Bright creatures at the library. Unfortunately L&L is out of circulation for a few weeks but they had Bookshops and Bonedust. I don‘t really read fantasy but this is fun.

I am having a tough time finding an audiobook that holds my attention. Hopefully this one breaks the losing streak.

Finished my last 2023 read early this afternoon (The Rose Code by Kate Quinn) and this was my final count for the year.

I don‘t know if I will set a book goal for 2024.

Booksblanketsandahotbeverage I might try the page goal this year 🙃 4mo

I think for 2024 I am going to deactivate my accounts with StoryGraph and Bookmory and just focus on reading for the sake of reading. No set goal. Just tracking books I want to read and going from there.

Yesterday I came across the app Reading List and I am taking the books I have on my various TBR lists and consolidating them to Reading List. There I can log what I‘m reading and when I finished with no pressure.

AnnR That's a wonderful idea @silverneurotic, especially if the book related social media is becoming a stressor. I'm also going to cut back on my reading challenges and focus on my tbr list. Wishing you a fun year of reading. 5mo

This book destroyed me. It was so good, but so devastating at the same time.

I‘m starting a reread of the series, and never read this prequel. I enjoyed it! I‘m super excited to revisit Stoneybrook and my old “friends”.

I think I would have enjoyed this more if I liked fantasy more. Still, I can appreciate a good story and a good narrator.

I listened to this in a single day. I started first thing in the morning and while initially I was just feeling okay about it I soon got swept up and could not not finish before bed. I am discovering that found family is one of those tropes that, if done right, I will fall completely in love.

I started the morning listening to Maame by Jessica George and picked up right where Maddy‘s Dad dies…then tonight I‘m reading Demon Copperhead and Damon‘s mom dies. Then of course I‘m also reading Under the Whispering Door so it has been a fun reading day.

I am reading three books. The tagged book, TJ Klune‘s “Under the Whispering Door” and Shobha Rao‘s “Girls Burn Brighter”. I would recommend all three books.

My grandmother went on a train trip to Canada when I was a preteen. She brought home my first copy of Anne of Green Gables that I completely wore out. Now I love picking up random copies in thrift stores to add to my collection.

Listened to the audiobook.

This book is a hidden gem. The writing is deceptively simple, and is a quick read but there is a lot to unpack. I will definitely be thinking about this book for a long time.

The Celebrants | Steven Rowley

Although I love S. Rowley, I have to admit that The Celebrants did not quite work. It was good, but the build up to the end was uneven and kind of indulgent. The final chapter though was perfection.

He was an astronaut, he imagined, like in one of those movies; his mission took him to a distant planet on the far reaches of the solar system, Saturn, perhaps, or Neptune.

This was a Kindle First pick and on surface level it seems like one of this fun, low stakes read. However, it was definitely a book I underestimated. Lots going on and lots to love. I was actually disappointed when I got to the end because I 100% wanted to stay in the story.
