#DoubleBookSpin for January ✅

Most of this book is an interview with Pope Francis and the last part is a papal letter about the Holy Year of Mercy (2016). Most of it is still relevant since the central message is mercy - that god has mercy for us and that we should have compassion for ourselves & for each other. A bit repetitive, but the pope‘s stories were interesting and he expresses himself well.
7/10

An interesting insight into the thinking of the current Pope which I think will be of interest to Christians and sympathetic non-believers alike #spiritualreading #lent

I picked up this book after watching The Two Popes. It's Pope Francis' major statement on the environment and humanity's obligation to save the planet. The approach is ecological (everything is connected) and humanitarian and deeply critical of our capitalistic narratives of progress. I am glad I read it.

I honestly just think more Christians need to stop ignoring Jesus and listen to Papa Frank. Too many out there are giving us a bad name.

A surprisingly interesting study of the current Pope and his predecessor- the only time in history when there have been ‘two‘ Popes.

I had read reviews of this book saying that it was biased but I think as long as you are aware of this (surely all bios are biased in some way?) then it‘s a fascinating account of their similarities and differences, in particular their suggested implication in authoritarian regimes.

ljuliel Isn‘t that cute ? I love the cover ! I literally know very little about the Catholic faith , but the way they choose the pope , and a lot of their ceremonies and practices sounds interesting to learn more about. I might try this one out at some point. 4y
julesG Not the only time in history with two popes, though. Sorry, I spent a whole semester having my professor drone on and on about the Papal Schism of 1378, just had to leave this fact here. 4y
squirrelbrain @ljuliel - that‘s precisely why I read this book. I think you‘d find it quite interesting.... 4y

squirrelbrain Sorry @julesG - I was oversimplifying! (Maybe that was one of the less interesting sections that I skim read!) 😬 4y
BarbaraBB This sounds interesting indeed even though I am not a fan of the Pope and his institute 😉 (edited) 4y
TheAromaofBooks I'm always confused when an author writes about something like religion and then people complain that the writing is “biased“ - is it even possible to write about religion without being biased?! 4y
julesG Boring late Middle Ages one-upmanship, more or less. Had little to do with the actual faith. 🙄 4y
squirrelbrain Not many books for #vaticancity @BarbaraBB - give it a go! 4y
squirrelbrain @TheAromaofBooks - my thoughts entirely! 🤷‍♀️ 4y
Chelsea.Poole I'm watching the Netflix movie currently. So interesting! 4y
Librarybelle Good choice for the challenge! @julesG - I initially thought of the Great Schism when I saw this title! 😂 4y

For those of you aiming for a full house on #readingeurope2020, including those pesky little micro-states, this book would do rather nicely for #vaticancity...

Finished Laudato Si while doing some #audiostitching! I'm at 9.5 hours for the #24B4Monday #readathon, and it's 10:45 pm, so I might as well call it ~10 hours total. I finished 2 books, A Lost Lady and Laudato Si, (I'll post reviews tomorrow), despite a very busy weekend and not much reading time! 😊 Now I'm going to do a little more seminary reading before going to bed! #NFNov @Andrew65 @TheReadingMermaid @jb72 @Clwojick @rsteve388

Andrew65 That‘s fantastic, especially with a busy weekend. Well done and thanks for playing along. 👏👏👏😊🍾🥂😍🥳🎈 4y

Fun little #audiorun to break up an evening of reading. And for once, one of my required reads is available as an audiobook, and a free one at that! #NFNov @rsteve388 @Clwojick

TimSpalding I love Pope Francis more than most, but—wow!—I found that some tedious reading. Perhaps it would go down smoother in audiobook form. What are you thinking so far? 4y
