Normally I like Makkai; normally I like an addiction memoir, but about halfway into each, I started just dreading going back. The Makkai was slow and dull. I just couldn‘t bring myself to care about any of the characters. Stash was equally about divorce and addiction, and I just wasn‘t enjoying it. 🤷🏻♀️
AmyG I can only say that at 59% in the book-the Makkai story seriously got better. A long way to go, but I am racing through the last 20%. 13mo
Cinfhen I‘m at 70% in the Makkai and it‘s STILL REALLY DRAGGING IMHO - im just too invested at this point to quick - but it‘s a disappointment 13mo

Cinfhen I do like the audio but I know you‘re not wild about Julia Whelan - as a #BorrowNotBuy it‘s ok but o still think it‘s a bit of a disappointment 13mo

ChaoticMissAdventures This is so interesting to see. Makkai's Great Believers is 1 of my all time favorites, but I bailed on this one at 25% because I was just bored. I don't think I can justify dragging myself through 60-70% of a boring book for the good 30% at the end. It's too bad I know she worked hard on it. 13mo

Megabooks @cariashley definitely keep your mind open, but perhaps go in with low expectations. 🤔 Sometimes that helps me be surprised by enjoying it! 13mo
