A Suitable Boy | Vikram Seth

#mybiggestbook is A Suitable Boy which I read more than 20 years ago and still think about. It's a wonderful historical novel that delves into politics, religion and class told through the stories of four extended families in 1950s India. A great read.

Victoria_C I bought this at a used book sale this year. Haven't opened it yet. Kind of intimidating. 8y
GinaAnderson @VictoriaC As I recall, it's pretty manageable. I highly recommend it. 8y
LeahBergen I really enjoyed this book! 8y

But when the question is number of pages #MyBiggestBook is Dictionary of Slovene language. 1714 pages and also with impressive dimensions.

queerbookreader Definitely the biggest I've seen on here so far 👌🏽 Are you fluent in the language? 8y
Simona @lemonlime799 I hope so, it's my mother tongue 😉 8y
queerbookreader @Simona Right, yeah I'd call that fluency 😝 8y
Simona @lemonlime799 Maybe I should write that this is Slovenian - Slovene dictionary. 8y

I think I can count the three volume set of Proust's Remembrance of Things Past as #mybiggestbook right? It's over 3,000 pages all together and it took me an entire year to read. Fun times. 😆

Mayread That is a mountain I've yet to climb. Even the thought of madeleines...😱 8y
shawnmooney I got at least three quarters of the way through the translation that came out about a dozen years ago – Lydia Davis was one of the translators – and while I enjoyed the writing, the psychological dynamics between the characters late in the series made me sick to my stomach (a slight exaggeration, but only a slight one…) so I gave up. 8y
Sue My biggest book as well :) I just love it though. 8y
Simona @Eyelit I was very passionate about Proust end his books in my late teens years. 8y

#MyBiggestBook is left over from college - yes, decades ago. My all-time favorite love poem is still marked. It lives in my guest room for bedtime reading. And each volume is 2500+ pages! #nevergonnadonate

Reviewsbylola I have some Norton anthologies hiding out in my basement too. 8y
Sydsavvy Ooh so good! 8y
LauraBeth Those look like my editions from college 😀 8y

PurpleyPumpkin I still have mine from my University days as well. They'll always be part of my collection! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Reviewsbylola @Sydsavvy @LauraBeth @BookishMarginalia @PurpleyPumpkin Clearly Norton Anthologies are a universal experience for bookish folks! ❤️📚😎 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @ErinC Envious of your new editions! Hope the students are good to you this year. 😀 8y
ErinC Thanks @BarbaraTheBibliophage! They always are - I'm very lucky! It's the parents who can be a pain! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @ErinC Yes, I can only imagine! 8y
Sydsavvy Lol yes evidently! And here I thought I was the only one who still cherished them. 😎😎 8y

Abraham Lincoln Set: A Life | Michael Burlingame
post image

This two-volume boxed hardcover set, a mammoth biography of Lincoln, is #mybiggestbook. 2,000 pages. I lugged it from Canada to Tokyo, finally started reading it a couple years ago, got 100 or so pages in, was absolutely mesmerized, but set it aside for whatever reason. One of my 2017 reading goals is to finish 'er off!

My biggest book I have right now is also one that I treasure. It is a 1955 book on North American birds that I inherited from my uncle. He was a country Doctor, and the Mothers of WWII from Prairie Creek, Indiana gave this to him back in the fifties to thank him. They knew he loved nature and spent time watching birds. This book has beautiful illustrations, and I still use it to identify birds. #MyBiggestBook

SusanInTiburon Lovely story, and what a fine book to own! 8y
LauraBeth As a book lover and a bird lover - WOW! Great story 😀 8y

ValerieAndBooks Love it and how that blue jay looks like he's scolding that little bird next to him! 8y
Melkyl @ValerieAndBooks That's pretty accurate for a blue jay; the ones in my yard yell at my dog when they feel she is out of line 😂 8y
