#Maria
quote

Full quote:
“Here‘s @chefJoséandres sharing his plan to feed #Maria survivors across Puerto Rico with support from federal partners,” FEMA tweeted. After all the struggles and confused stares from FEMA officials and the big charities, it felt like vindication.

“Team, you can be proud!” I told my chefs. “FEMA has just announced that our plan is the plan to follow!”

Later on, I realized I was being naïve. They were just using my image...

Chrissyreadit I couldn‘t decide if today Hunger Games or Handmaids Tale was more relevant. 6y
MicheleinPhilly I am reading this now and I can‘t imagine how it must have felt for you to relive it all over again. I keep having to take breaks because I am either fighting back tears or VIBRATING with rage. 5y
WanderingBookaneer @MicheleinPhilly : I had to stop several times. I‘ve started to write how much his words affected me, but I still can‘t talk about the bureaucratic BS you had to go through to feed people in need. 5y
MicheleinPhilly When that one FEMA official told him that food was not a priority...🤯🤬 5y

Day 31 #AfterMaria - reading on the back terrace to take advantage of light and breeze.

Progress is so slow and it feels like the mainland has moved on, even though power is at 18%, water at 68%, communications spotty at best... #JonesAct back with a vengeance. It's disheartening 😔

AndreaReads It feels that way here, as well. I'm not hearing nearly enough about what's being done to help. I'm so sorry. I wish there was more I could do. 6y
riversong153 That is just awful news. Do you have any recommendations of how regular folks can help? 6y
Angitron Yes, please let us know how we can help if you have any suggestions/recommendations. I‘m so sorry this is happening. My heart goes out to you guys. 💕 6y

Magslhalliday Adding to the offer of support: practical or emotional. I know I don't know you IRL but your LitsyAtoZ challenge has changed my reading habits and my local librarian is thinking about using it in some way. So I want to support you back! 6y
Notafraidofwords It does feel that way. But I‘m calling congress everyday. 6y
mrsmarch Anyone who wants to organize advocacy for PR, visit www.100daysxpuertorico.org for guided calls to action. They also have a FB group. 6y
Oldschool_millenial I noticed that, too. It feels like the news just leapfrogs from one disaster to the next as if the last one is done. Lately, it's been talking about the California fires non-stop since they started two weeks ago, the Santa Rosa fire especially. My mother lives there (she was unaffected, thankfully) but people we know either directly or indirectly lost homes, too. My heart goes out to you in Puerto Rico and EVERYBODY trying to recover and rebuild. 6y
cocomass This is so terrible. Thank you for continuing to keep us updated. You inspired me to write my senators and representative today, and visit the resources left my other littens to learn more about how I can help. Stay strong ✊🏽🇵🇷 6y
Gissy @Oldschool_millenial So sorry to hear about what happened in Santa Rosa! I'm glad that your mother is ok. The world is upside down. We need to help those affected by any natural circumstances. Here in PR we are standing up together, helping each other. One step at a time! 6y
Avanders Agree w 👆🏽 : we‘re here to help and support in any way we can. And Thanks @mrsmarch ! Good info! 6y
alisiakae Your posts after the hurricane, as well as what we experienced trying to contact my cousin's husband's family after #maria both inspired me to help organize a fundraiser that occurred this weekend. We filled a truck with medical supplies and water, and brought in more than $10,000 for United for Puerto Rico. I have a few pics on my Litsy page, and more on FB. ❤️🇵🇷❤️🇵🇷 6y
kspenmoll @mrsmarch Thanks!!! 6y
tpixie @4thhouseontheleft awesomeness! And thx @mrsmarch @Gissy your positive attitude will help Puerto Rico recover! @BookishMarginalia we hold you, fellow Liittens and all PR in our prayers! (edited) 6y

Good morning from happy place @TheBookmarkPR -- trying to distract ourselves from the impending threat of #Maria 😱 #thebookmarkpr

nickimags Is #Maria another hurricane? 7y
AmyG @nickimags I just saw on TV that it will most likely become one. 7y

EchoLogical @BookishMarginalia Is it like this every hurricane season for you guys? We're supposed to be moving to Key West next year and I'm terrified. 7y
Notafraidofwords Sigh 😔 7y
BookishMarginalia @EchoLogical This is the worst in over a decade... We hunker down and are okay physically, because constructions are strong (concrete) and regulations good (hurricane-grade windows), which makes us better than Key West in that sense. For Key West --and most of Florida-- if a hurricane is coming, you need to pack up and leave. 7y
EchoLogical @BookishMarginalia Thank you for the info. To be honest, I'm hoping that we won't have to move there. My husband works for the government so we go where Uncle Sam tells us but I can't help but wish there was some way out of it. 7y
AprilMae Ugh! Sending good vibes your way!!! 7y
alisiakae Positive vibes (and a #litsypenpal letter) being sent your way! 7y
