This book took me a long while to get through but it was good. I've always enjoyed Lizzie Borden books since I was a lot younger. This one was very well written and the author does a great job citing each and every source so now I have even more books to look for!

TheLudicReader I am also fascinated with Lizzie Borden. 2w

“Lizzie Borden took an ax and gave her mother 40 whacks and when she saw what she had done, she gave her father 41.”
This book is another take on this infamous story, imagining the crimes through Lizzie‘s eyes as well as her sister Emma‘s, the household maid Bridget‘s and a man called Benjamin‘s. The writing is compelling and the story, as always, fascinating.

Cathythoughts Great review. I loved it ! 9mo

Another #bookshelfclearout and good riddance!! This was insufferable. Everyone sucked, everything sucked, it was sticky and gross without even going into gore and if I didn‘t have this on audio I‘d have DNF‘d.

It all just felt mean spirited. Which may have been the point! But I didn‘t enjoy my time on the journey or arriving to that point.

I did have a very appropriate enamel pin to go with it though 👍

Mehso-so

This book is geared to a YA audience, though I didn‘t think it read that way. The author did a lot of research and tried to present both sides. It turns out nothing Lizzie said during the indictment was included at the trial, nor was key testimony of one witness. Even if they had been included, I‘m not convinced it would have been enough to convict her. However, I‘m not sure how anyone else could have done it. Cont in comments...

LibraryCin There were some photos included at the end and a bibliography and notes. I was quite shocked at the look of the skulls (quite bashed in!) of Mr. and Mrs. Borden. And who knew there was (is?) a “Lizzie Borden Quarterly” journal!? I thought this was a good place to start to read about Lizzie and I am likely to find and read more. 10mo

DimeryRene @TheBookHippie @Cathythoughts Really love it so far! The audio is pretty good, but I think if I ever read again, I‘ll try print to highlight some. There‘s great sentence fragments that make it feel like a dream sometimes. 10mo
TheBookHippie @DimeryRene oh how wonderful!! I‘m moving it to the top! Thx! 10mo

Very well done, with much to think about.

What you think you know may not be accurate…but…my trial verdict 👎🏻

“It happened every spring in Fall River,
Massachusetts. Behind the curtained
windows of the stately house she shared
with her sister on French Street, Miss
Lizbeth Borden heard the children
skipping rope on the sidewalk, chanting
a rhyme to the once-popular tune of
"Ta-Ra-Ra Boom-De-Ay":
Lizzie Borden took an axe,
Gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had
done,
She gave her father forty-one.”
