There are many reasons why I wrote THE GUEST ROOM. This is one: #HumanTraffickingAwarenessDay. My thanks to groups like CAST Los Angeles for their fight against trafficking and slavery, and my publisher, Vintage Books.

Godmotherx5 Thanks for bringing awareness to the issue. 6y
Graciouswarriorprincess Thank you for the awareness. 6y

Human and sex trafficking is often thought of as a global issue, and while it is, many neglect to realize that it happens at home. It does, and it disproportionately affects women and children of color. Here are some books that shed light on what goes on under our noses in the United States and Canada. Check my feed for another post of nonfiction recs and one of fiction recs on trafficking.

B.Reader Excellent reading list on a huge issue. I work in child welfare and live in a huge rodeo state, and have since learned that rodeo events are also a huge venue for human trafficking. Truly a topic deserving more attention! 7y
readordierachel Is there one of these in particular you would recommend reading first? 7y

Debiw781 Adding these to my tbr list 7y
TheWordJar Thanks for sharing this list. I'm woefully undereducated on the topic, and unfortunatey, until recently I also thought it was more of a global issue. I had no idea the prevalence in America. 7y
DeeLew Thanks for the recommendations! 💜 7y

Some nonfiction books on human and sex trafficking around the world. Hearing stories of trafficking rings is horrifying but necessary. I can't imagine the pain these women and children must go through. I've only read Half the Sky out of this list but I intend to change that soon as this is an issue that needs more attention worldwide. Check my feed for another post with nonfiction recs and some fiction recs.

To honor the many women & children who are affected by human and sex trafficking across the world, here's a list of fiction books, from middle grade to adult, that deal with this difficult subject. It's important we share their stories and fight this form of modern day slavery. I'll also post some nonfiction recommendations. ✊🏼

I read Sold a couple years ago and it's an incredible YA book on trafficking in Nepal.

#HumanTraffickingAwarenessDay

Theresa I second that endorsement for Sold. 7y
