Another great entry in the In Death series. This one involves some super scary technology. I love watching Eve grow as a person and become more comfortable in her skin. Looking forward to the next #InDeathLongReadalong !

LiseWorks Fantastic, thanks for joining us. 24m

Not sure why it took me so long to pick up the second book in this series. A great futuristic mystery/thriller. Really enjoying Eve as a main character.

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR: Sorry for the late post! Ch.11-15: Still convinced there is a connection between the suicides, Eve is even more certain once she comes face to face with a woman who kills herself right in front of her. Eve knows this woman was somehow coerced and begins to worry that it‘s a VR unit that Roarke manufactured that is the culprit. But how can such a thing be possible? ⬇️

StayCurious When she asks Roarke he has no idea if it can be done but insists he didn‘t do this. So who did? At Mavis‘ big party, Roarke gets coerced into hurting Eve, something he would never do in his right mind - it rings too true to the suicides. Eve realizes it was Jess and his music console that were behind what happened to Roarke. And both she and Roarke want blood. We don‘t know exactly what Roarke does to Jess behind closed doors. ⬇️ 3d
StayCurious I doubt we want to know. We see a dark part of Roark that he mostly keeps hidden. But can Eve pin the murders on Jess? (edited) 3d

Librarybelle Yeah…we probably don‘t want to know what Roarke did! 3d
LiseWorks Considering what Roarke went through with his Dad and what he had to do living in the streets in Ireland, i think we know what he did before. But somehow, I don't think Jess is the mastermind behind this. 3d
willaful I think Jess is too obvious. Someone is using him, maybe.

That was a really disturbing scene. I find it hard to believe Eve wouldn't have been a lot more upset than she was, especially with her history.

Also not loving the cops covering for each other. Hits too close to home.

CatLass007 @willaful I also found Eve‘s reaction to being sexually assaulted in a closet by her own husband unbelievable. If Roarke was influenced by Jess, is it possible that Eve was influenced by Jess also? 2d

LiseWorks Glad you enjoyed this one, yeah I deduced the possibility of the villain when introduced but wasn't sure to the very end. 4d

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR #ReadAway2024 #SeriesLove2024 The fourth book in the Eve Dallas series is the most enjoyable I‘ve read so far. The technology to exert control over the minds of others? Terrifying. And completely believable that it will be attempted by someone or someones.

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR: Ch.6-10: Eve continues working the case and starts to wonder if there is a connection between Fitzhugh and Mathias, and another apparent suicide of a senator. The cases don‘t seem to have anything in common but Eve senses something in her gut and can‘t turn away.⬇️

StayCurious We meet Jess Barrow who clearly wants Roarke to invest in his musical toy. There‘s also an allusion to him being able to control the actions of Eve and Roarke, make them turned on so they can‘t keep their hands off each other. Creepy. And then he doctors a demo disk of Mavis and is that the reason Eve tumbles into another nightmare? We find out that Mathias and the senator also have that strange burn on the brain…what could have caused this anomaly (edited) 2w
willaful So, so creepy! I suppose I shouldn't worry about E&R since they have 56 more books after this, but I am anyway. 😂 2w

ShananigansReads Sorry I don‘t have anything constructive to add, I haven‘t read a single page this mind. I should probably take this week to catch up. 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️ 2w
LiseWorks I found myself laughing out loud when Peabody melted when she saw Roarke coming from the shower. Oh my! Also, something is up with Jessie Barrel. What is he up to! 2w
TheAromaofBooks Jess is such a creep!! I'm really intrigued to find out more about this “brain mark“ - I feel like Robb is really starting to lean into the futuristic aspect of the world-building by creating a story/murder method that wouldn't be a possibility earlier in time, if that makes sense haha 1w
willaful @TheAromaofBooks Yes, I had the same thought. 1w

#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong @LiseWorks Book4: Ch.1-5: Eve and Roarke are on their ultra-rich honeymoon (not jealous at all) on Roarke‘s space resort, when they are interrupted by what appears to be a suicide. A young man has hanged himself with no explanation. Eve tries to put it aside as she returns home and gets back to work. ⬇️

StayCurious With Peabody now as her aide, they run across another suicide - or is it murder? Eve doesn‘t buy that the smug, arrogant lawyer she dealt with in court many times would kill himself. And then, the ME discovers something strange: a burn on the brain. What could have caused that? ⬇️ 3w
StayCurious Meanwhile, Eve meets two scientists that work for Roarke, and she starts to realize that she‘s going to have to up her social game when it comes to being Roarke‘s wife. And Mavis has a new backer for her music-someone named Jess Barrow. Is he scamming Mavis or is he the real deal? We are getting to know Peabody more, her background, and she‘s starting to be more comfortable with Eve. (edited) 3w

Librarybelle The burn on the brain was a very interesting twist! 3w
LiseWorks I'm also wondering about Jess Barrow 3w
TheAromaofBooks I am really loving all the regular characters. Peabody is my new fave!! 3w
willaful @TheAromaofBooks I had to give up on the audiobooks because I was so irked by how Peabody was voiced! 2w
ShananigansReads Weeks later I‘ve finally caught up and I‘m very suspicious of Jess but if the past hold out it means I‘m wrong and he‘s the real deal. Lol 1w

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Our next book is book 4 in the series and, like last month, we will aim to do 5 chapters a week, with mini discussions on Sundays, and final discussion on April 28th. We felt that pace worked well. From memory, this one deals again with hard topics so take care to look at the triggers beforehand. I‘m so enjoying our journey and look forward to your thoughts on Rapture in Death!

Librarybelle Sounds good!! 3w
