Brown Girl Dreaming | Jacqueline Woodson
post image
Pickpick

Absolutely beautiful. Jacqueline Woodson writes a memoir of her early childhood, growing up in the early 1960s between Brooklyn and South Carolina, friends, family, the Kingdom Hall, civil rights, listening and becoming a writer. Written in verse, with not a word out of place. And if you can get the audio, do! All the 🌟💕🌟!

Mehso-so

Picking this book was #blameitonlitsy and #readingparis motivated. I grabbed up a library copy, which suits me fine. Especially since I didn‘t love the main character, Aimée or the author‘s style. A good mystery should make me want to do nothing but plow through to the end. This, not so much. But, ahh...Paris.

Carolyn11215 I think I fell for the books because of the descriptions of Paris neighborhoods. I find Aimee really annoying these days so not sure whether I‘ll continue to read. I think I got through about 15 of the books. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Carolyn11215 I liked that part the best, but Aimée just didn‘t draw me. I did have a good laugh at the ancient computer technology, though! ? 5y

Starting this one thanks to @Carolyn11215 ! She posted a review of a later book in the series recently. I‘m headed to Paris in April, so have been picking some related fiction lately. I also have a couple similar memoirs on my list. I‘m thinking I‘ll #changemyplans and use this for the #booked2019 #femaledetective prompt. It‘ll also be my #boughtorborrowedin2019 for #readingwomenchallenge. It‘s a library book.

Carolyn11215 Yay @BarbaraTheBibliophage! Each book focuses on a different neighborhood in Paris so you might want to read through a few more before your trip! 5y
