Practical Magic | Alice Hoffman

My dear Littens, I may be ostracized for this but...

The movie is better.

This audiobook felt like a slog of summary and not much actually happening. I didn't feel the familial comfort and closeness in the book that I got from the movie. And I literally have only seen the movie once about 10 years ago. That was enough. There really wasn't much magic or intrigue and I don't think I care enough to read the prequel or sequel. ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I was hoping to find more to like in the story, but I saw it as a stream of over-summarization linking a few key scenes.

vlwelser I also enjoyed the movie more. 3y
Prairiegirl_reading I‘m not a fan of the book or the movie! 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3y
Kimberlone @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick i wasn‘t super impressed with Practical Magic, but I recently decided to give Magic Lessons a try and I ended up LOVING the prequel. 3y
BookwormAHN The movie and the prequels are much better 😺 3y
WanderingBookaneer My least favorite in the series. 3y
Read-y_Picker Seems this is very much the popular opinion. I was so disappointed by this book but on a positive note, the (prequels) are MUCH MUCH BETTER! 3y
nichollinlove I'm with you and @bookwormAH. I read The Rules of Magic first and that probably saved the whole series for me. I'm really glad I didn't start with PM, I wouldn't have picked up another and I would have missed out! 3y
Sargar114 I‘ve never seen the movies, but I agree with others that the prequel (I‘ve only read The Rules of Magic) was much more enjoyable. I also have Magic Lessons on my shelf to read. 3y
TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! I had one Hoffman book on my TBR that I tried to read this month & it just wasn't really for me. 3y
5feet.of.fury I haven‘t read it, but I watched the movie last year for probably the first time in a decade and was like “I don‘t think this movie is good, I think I just want midnight margaritas” 3y
Bookzombie I agree with your review. I haven‘t seen the movie in ages and I‘m worried it won‘t hold up to my memory. 🙂 3y
MidnightBookGirl So, I first read this book right after seeing the movie and it was a let down. But I re-read it a year or so ago in preparation for the other Owen novels coming out and liked it a lot better... but I agree, the movie is better, and I have watched it so many times. I just consider the book and movie as two separate things. 3y
BkClubCare Oooooo! I love to do book to film challenges for myself. And I like when people say the movie better. Might have to move this duo up my list. 3y
