pickYears after the heroes of the Justice League retire, a new generation of powered people quarrel and fight each other, making life for civilians dangerous. This book is the antithesis of the film MAN OF STEEL. It answers the question ‘Why do we need Superman?‘ We need him to be the role model for the concept of ‘superhero‘. Otherwise, we live amongst fascist Gods ruling over us mortal peons. His most valuable power is always doing what‘s right.
so-so14 Batman stories set in 14 countries by creative teams from those countries: neat idea, ok execution.
With about 15 pages per story, there's not much space for development, even bearing in mind most readers will have some immersion in the Bat-milieu, so minimal set up is needed.
A quick, easy read with some good bits, but it's like those pizzas that show piled toppings on the packaging, but there's hardly any cheese and only one olive inside 🍕🫤

so-soIt was an interesting experiment at the time: a new issue each week for a year. With multiple writers and artists working to to achieve the goal, it succeeded in telling a cohesive story, drawn out the same way the story stretched over months; however, it lacked a cohesive look and voice. And while the penultimate reveal was actually clever and strong, the final reveal immediately undermined it. Interesting, but not an essential bat-story.

so-soA grimy, noir BATMAN tale from the creators of 100 BULLETS sounds like a home run in my book. But, despite the amazing art, and the dark poetry of the narrative, I just couldn‘t muster the enthusiasm I thought this would engender. I‘m not sure why, but the book left me cold, when I should have loved it.
pickIt‘s a comfort read. But look at Nightwing and Flash trying to figure out different ways speedsters could carry other superheroes: LOOK AT THEM. The Bat-born : Flash : Is this really more dignified? Nightwing (pleased): Nope. Way comfier though. The Dirty Dancing: Nightwing: I feel like I‘m flying! Flash (displeased): Yeah, I‘m not running with you like this.

Made this tonight, from upcycled materials.
Saved the foil seal from baking powder and transformed it into a Batman bookmark 🦇🔖📚 by cutting out design, using double-sided tape to attach to a drawing I doodled, and attaching a string that I had saved from a previous project.
These make good ornaments. Just be sure to be cautious in case the foil is sharp.

pickA delightful amount of mind-bending silliness with the imps, followed by a short detour to Themiscyra, all foes defeated through the power of friendship (aka allied bad asses combining their power). I think Robin had the best lines throughout. A particularly wholesome entry in this series, which continues to be a feast for the eyeballs thanks to Dan Mora's art. Always eager to see more!
