One of the biggest complaints about Batman is he could do more good with Bruce Wayne‘s money than as a masked vigilante, beating up impoverished muggers. Without getting into the responses to this (cause honestly for me BM is just a pathway to the larger bat family) Absolute Batman just makes Batman lower middle class. Batman‘s grief and rage, as an adult and child, are well done. His mother is a revelation.

Always up for a twist on not just the Batman's origins, but the foundations of the character itself.
In some ways the pattern is the same, the tragic loss of a parent though gun violence, the intensive period of training, skulking through the night in costume.
And in many other ways it is not : Bruce comes from a working class background, an engineer in the light of day, Matha Wayne lives, 1/?

I'm so impressed with this, even with all the hype. Snyder took a few years away from DC to work on creator-owned comics and he's clearly reinvigorated. I love the idea of a contemporary, working class Bruce Wayne who is fighting a corrupt system. Snyder gets that Batman's rogues gallery could just as easily be his buddies under different circumstances. Dragotta is truly in his element, squeezing every ounce of action into even the tiniest panels.

A solid start to a new Batman. Exciting twists on familiar characters, but still the same Dark Knight.

Absolute Batman punts the bad guy's kid and I'm here for it 😅 😅 😅

I'm not sure how long the “Absolute“ title will hang around, but I'm enjoying this alternative Batman.
