This didn‘t work for me like at all… I am not one to try to figure out twists but hers are so obvious, it‘s not fun from that perspective. Plus, purposeful cruelty is the worst trait a person can have for me, and there was over 50 pages of outright cruelty and emotional manipulation that made it a very difficult and unsatisfying read for me. Some books just don‘t work for some readers. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Megabooks @Hooked_on_books I just brought a screenshot of my basket in the store! I hardly ever get to go in person to these sales because my nearest BN is a hour away, but I was in town anyway for an appointment. Insignificant Others was an impulse buy! 3mo

vlwelser I was surprised my library had the untranslated version but they had the other one. I'm spoiled. The main Boston library is across the street/square from where I work. Best make use of it, right? And read all of the French books so they get more. 3mo

This was a similar format to My Husband; obsessive, ‘unlikeable‘ protagonist with a sort of twist at the end. My Husband was a five star read for me and can‘t help but compare the two and although this was compulsive reading I think it could have been shorter. A low pick. I do love her writing though and will read anything she writes.

ChaoticMissAdventures I need to try this again. My Husband is one of my favorite books, but I gave up on this about 100 pages in. I think I too am comparing it to much to Husband. 3mo

youneverarrived @ChaoticMissAdventures I think it‘s hard not to compare as My Husband was brilliant & this feels like a similar vibe but just not as good 😕 it does pick up pace a bit halfway so maybe worth trying again but I wouldn‘t say you‘re missing out much by bailing. 3mo

This was an interesting book, as was her first book, My Husband. Both are stories of obsessive women, this one being about Cloe who is determined to be a famous singer ala Taylor Swift. She sets about her course of action to achieve this and we follow her as she ascends the ladder to stardom. A few words to describe her: vicious, cold, manipulative, and she never changes. Not for a moment. Great ending that I didn‘t see coming.

Cléo is not a very likable woman but she‘s honest as a narrator and she only has one goal: becoming world famous. She succeeds (no spoiler) and for some inspiration and recharging she spends some time on an uninhabited island, reminiscing about her life.
It‘s an easy read and I enjoyed it but it‘s not as good as My Husband.
