For Avery Cullinslibrary archivist, former teenage runaway, and gay man from a small Southern town"family" means a live-in boyfriend and a surly turtle. But when his father, a renowned nuclear physicist, commits suicide, Avery's decade-long estrangement from his mother, now hobbled following a stroke, comes to a skidding halt. With his boyfriend's help, Avery takes custody of his mother and the trio heads cross country in a rented U-Haul, back to an apartment in Cleveland and an uncertain future. Their journey soon becomes a pilgrimage into the past when Avery begins sifting through his mother's mementos. What emerges is a story of family, love, and loss as his parents made a home, lost a child, and tested the boundaries of marital love in the 1970s. Meanwhile, in today's uncertain social landscape, Avery must confront his own struggle with a mother who doesn't recognize him and a lover who seeks to claim him for his own.

#sundayfunday @sebrittain Okay no body shoot, but I am not in love with fall. 🙅‍♀️it‘s okay. - it is better than winter, but I am a summer girl. I suppose if I‘d have to say I like things about fall they would be 1) leaves changing (makes beautiful photos) 2) bonfires 3) hayrides 4) fall scents 5) heated blankets

sebrittainclark Until yesterday, it was still basically summer here 🌡🌡🌡 6y
Shannon_McKinney @sebrittain same here! On Friday it was 91 & Saturday the warmest it got was 66. I was freezing to death at my sons soccer game. 😂 6y

Pickpick

Wow! This book is a great justification for not making pronouncements about "best of" until the year is complete. This small press gem follows a son as he moves his mother to live with him after his father's death. The meat of the story is a hard look at his parents' relationship. The writing is soooo amazing. All the thumbs-up!

#TBRTuesday

So, my TBR list from last week sort of fell apart (per usual). New Tuesday, new list. We'll see how it goes!!!

8little_paws This book sounds interesting! I look forward to see how you like it. 7y
ScrappyMags I think I'm going to go for something fantasy-ish... a nice escape for me! 7y
Donna_sBookMinute I love the freedom of revamping my TBR list. No pressure (well maybe a little at times). But basically reading what I want when I want. 7y
Well-ReadNeck @Donna_sBookMinute I sort of do the same. But, I have found that I enjoy doing a check-in to help me make sure I get to library books, book club reads, etc. on time. 7y
Donna_sBookMinute You're right. And I'll have to get a better grip on the management of my reads because I have had to either renew library loans or return unread books. 7y
