pickFinished this one on the car ride home. I enjoyed the slow pace, descriptive scenery and character development. It moves back and forth in time between the 1890s and 1930s. The descriptions of the secluded English countryside are beautiful. I enjoyed both of the main characters and there was just enough suspense to keep it moving along; although at a fairly slow pace, which I enjoy.

so-soI'm not having any luck recently! This book was beautifully written but completely dragged. It wasn't what I was expecting and not the type of book I was needing to read right now if that makes sense. Overall I just felt bored reading about this home and the two women who had lived there decades apart from each other.
pickUsually I don't enjoy books where each chapter is a separate story because often those stories are not woven together skillfully into one tale. Not so with Fiercombe Manor, where we meet Alice and Elizabeth, both of whom struggle through pregnancies in the same house, 40 years apart. There is mystery and heartbreak here, but also a poignant and heartrending look at postpartum depression. Think this is same book as Girl in the Photograph.

so-soNone of the ladies liked this book today at the book club I lead at work. It wasn't bad! The writing was quite good. It just tried to do too much, I think - be too many things. I gave it four stars on good reads because I enjoyed the writing and the potential, but it wasn't a pick here bc I didn't live it. I wanted a more gothic style creepier mystery type story. And! Here are some creepy dolls on s book I discarded while weeding. Appropriate... V
pickAbsolutely adored this book. What a stunning read. I do enjoy a novel where two lives from two different centuries collide and merge. Beautiful, beautiful read.
