Random in Death: An Eve Dallas Novel | J. D. Robb
6 posts | 5 read
In this crime thriller from #1 New York Times-bestselling J.D. Robb, a small and easily concealed weapon wreaks havoc, and the killer is just a face in the crowd. Jennas parents had finally given in, and there she was, at a New York club with her best friends, watching the legendary band Avenue A, carrying her demo in hopes of slipping it to the guitarist, Jake Kincade. Then, from the stage, Jake catches her eye, and smiles. Its the best night of her life. Its the last night of her life. Minutes later, Jakes in the alley getting some fresh air, and the girl from the dance floor comes stumbling out, sick and confused and deathly pale. He tries to help, but its no use. He doesnt know that someone in the crowd has jabbed her with a needleand when his girlfriend Nadine arrives, she knows the only thing left to do for the girl is call her friend, Lieutenant Eve Dallas. After everyone on the scene is interviewed, lab results show a toxic mix of substances in the victims bodyand for an extra touch of viciousness, the needle was teeming with infectious agents. Dallas searches for a pattern: Had any boys been harassing Jenna? Was she engaging in risky behavior or caught up in something shady? But there are no obvious clues why this levelheaded sixteen-year-old, passionate about her music, would be targeted. And that worries Dallas. Because if Jenna wasnt targeted, if she was just the random, unlucky victim of a madman consumed by hatred, there are likely more deaths to come.

Sad to see how evil can affect the young…. I know this is fiction but there is some reality to every story and it is a great storyline and I can‘t wait for the next book 📖

This is #58 in a wonderful series that I still really enjoy. This one was no exception. While this series is set in the near future, they are not sci-fi but true mysteries (police procedurals) with a wonderful cast of characters and dark, cleverly plotted stories that include some humour. In this one Eve (a lieutenant in the NYPD) is after a psychopathic teenage killer. I recommend starting with the first one which is “Naked in Death“. 4.5/5!

Another great one! Robb looked at some current topics dealing with teens. I always feel like I am visiting old friends, when I read an 'In Death' book. This is the 58th one in the series and I have read them all.

Another solid chapter in the In Death series. This would also be a great one to try out if you are unsure of jumping into this huge series, as it reintroduces many of the key side characters. A very interesting and dark mystery and just that touch of romance the more recent books have had. 4.5⭐️
